Influencesbreaks, drum n bass, dub / downbeat, uk garage, Us Garage ,speed Garage hip hop and R&B ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Coca-Cola vibezone festival the editions : 2003 / 2004 and 2006 , was held in three different cities in Brazil: Porto Alerge, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro over different weekends. So it finally arrived in Rio I had to go and see what a festival in Brazil had to offer. Come on this is Brazil, at least the weather going to be good! Not this weekend the rain came on Friday and by the time I got to the site on Saturday and waded through the mud I felt quite at home. Hey this could be Europe! The Coca-Cola vibezone is not just about music. There is an open-air stage, creative zone complete with circus acts, a chill-out zone, and numerous dangerous sports for you to try. If you feel the urge you can even get your hair done and then apply for a Visa could so that you can buy your Coca-Cola merchandise on the way out. Sometimes you can take the whole corporate thing a bit far. The one real dance area: Zona Eléctrica had three of the best DJs in Rio playing followed by English DJs Jim Masters and DJ Lulu who played each one of the previous festivals. I have not heard any of the Brazilian DJs before. Jonas Rochas started things of playing a nice set of house to an empty tent. The crowd just seem to come check out what is going on and the leave. Anyway by the time Jonas drops ’Billie Jean’ the tent is quiet full and the kids are having fun. One thing that comes very evident is that this is a very young crowd. The organisers of the festival had aimed at the 16-20 years old age group but quiet a few of them are even younger. The quees for the MTV ’VJ audition’, Microsoft gaming and ’Learn to DJ’ zone are getting pretty full. Not even the main stage is getting the kids attention yet, despite DJ Fabio Machado treating us to some nice Drum and Bass. After another trip to the Zona Eléctrica to check out Gustavo Tata playing a tech-house set that would be appreciated by even the most knowledgeable clubbers in Europe we head over to the Chill out zone. Here we have DJ Mari Zander playing a nice set of house tracks. She starts of with Massive Attack’s ’Teardrops’ and by the time she drops ’Dirty’, the surrealness of the chill zone hits me. The kids haven’t come in here to chill out, they’ve come here to kiss or find themselves someone to kiss. The lyrics to a song have never seemed so apt: ’obscene, dirty, filthy, immoral’ - the tent is a mass of writhing bodies! Finally it’s nearing midnight and Jim Masters and Lulu. Before they are on we catch the end of Mauricio Lopes who is playing a very good techno set. Some of the tracks are wild but they just seem lost on such a young crowd. At 12 it’s time for Jim Masters who plays for about an one and half and then hands over to DJ Lulu who leaves out the techno for a house set. For the final two hours we get Jim and Lulu back to back. Jim drops a new track ’Lost in Rio’ or perhaps that what he decided to the track that night. At the 5am curfew a bouncer walks into the tent, motions with his arms for everyone to leave and they do exactly that, leaving the Xpander crew and the DJs to enjoy the best track on the night: a new promo of F-com. Speaking to the DJs and people after the party everyone was in agreement that the crowd was too young. They all wanted to dance to the new ’Electronic Music’ but weren’t really sure what to do. You could have played a Guru Josh track and they’d have dance to it. But then he rest of us weren’t always so clued up, and with DJs like: Jonas Rocha, Gutavo Tata and Maurico Lopes it won’t be long before people start talking about the scene in Brazil at the same time as the scene in Europe.

Their work includes: - Mediating between rival drug factions - Establishing cultural centres in the favelas - Raising awareness through talks, concerts and events - Employing favela residents in music, IT and cultural projects - Providing professional training in theatre, dance, music and computing - Starting and developing new bands, circuses, theatre groups, exhibitions, and much, much more Rio's Favelas Favelas are the slums that have built up over the last 40 years around Brazil's major cities. There are almost 5000 armed children working in drug factions in Rio’s favelas. The youth of each favela are not allowed to go into favelas under the command of different druglords. They are brought up thinking of people in those favelas as 'the enemy'. Parada de Lucas and the neighbouring community Vigario Geral have experienced horrific violence for the last 20 years, as two gangs have used it as a battleground to fight over drug-selling territory. AfroReggae has over 70 social projects aiming to show these children another way. They have set up nuclei, community arts and cultural centres, in several different favelas. This is where AfroReggae base most of their activities in each of the favelas where they work. They aim to bring people from different favelas together through their projects, one of which is AfroReggaeDigital. Goals of the Project AfroReggaeDigital provides radio training to residents of Parada de Lucas, teaching them to produce and present their own radio shows on the station. The goal of the station is to provide residents with the skills, confidence and platform to express their views and tell their stories. Future steps will involve adding a listening point in each nucleo, where people from that favela will be able to come and listen to the station broadcasting from Parada de Lucas, to hear the stories from Parada de Lucas and also to be able to contribute to the station. A whole new avenue of communication will be opened up for the youth of these favelas. A place to share their stories, share their ideas, and work together to find solutions to the problems they face. Videos from the AfroReggaeDigitalStudio. To raise funds for this project ( Favela Feva ), Izzy Fairbairn has held a big event called Favela Feva, twice at Guanabara and once at the AKA Bar (venues in Central London). The events were a great success. You can listen to music and see pictures from the first Favela Feva night on BBC Radio 1Xtra's website. You can also listen to an interview with RadioActive Director Max Graef on L Double's show on Radio 1Xtra, broadcast live from backstage at Favela Feva in the media bar on the left. Listen to AfroReggaeDigital! For more photos and audio from the project, go to www.afroreggaedigital.com The HTML site was purpose-built by our IT superhero Mark Benewith. This basic format was used to allow the students to learn HTML and take on the responsability of managing the site. AfroReggaeDigital Contributors Thanks to radio trainers Helen Clegg and Fabio Machado, volunteers Kasey Coates, Juliano Fiori, Stephen Fleg, Portuguese Interpreter Ritchie Nicola, AfroReggaeDigital student Ariana da Silva and of course Grupo Cultural AfroReggae for making this project a success. free counters

& Hospede inúmeras fotos no title= Hospede inúmeras fotos no slide.com GRÁTIS! FABIO MACHADO Is tireless. This carioca from Ilha do Governador (Governor Island) has gone from terrorizing the neighbours with the sound of his first pick ups 12 years ago to delighting the ears of drum n bass fans throughout the whole of Brazil. Starting his career in 1992, a time when dance music was dominating the dance floor, he was invited by Marcos Barizon to be a resident dj at Sunrise. During 1993 and 1994, at this monthly session, he started to develop his own style playing hip hop and both US and UK garage. In 1997, a jungle record changed his life. DJ Zinc: So Damn Fresh and Super Sharp Shooter. In 2001, Fabio worked hard to establish a good drum n bass scene in Rio de Janeiro. He organized a first rate line up. His first job as a producer was in a drum n bass tent at Om Mega, a festival that as dominated by the more well-known Trance music. He brought Dj Andy to play in Rio (now resident Dj at the Sub Grave project at the Hotel Cambridge in So Paulo). From then on there was no looking back as he became fully immersed in the sounds of drum n bass. He perfected his style at a very impressive speed, now being considered one of the best drum n bass Djs in Rio de Janeiro. For four years he has spread this knowledge of both drum n bass and jungle, playing out throughout the Rio state in Petrópolis, Teresópolis and Itaipava. In 2002 he was given the opportunity to play at the Ecosystem 2.0, described as an electro conference in the middle of the amazon rainforest. At this event he was able to watch famous artists up close such as: Dj Soul Slinger, Afrika Bambaataa, Mad Professor, Adam F and L Double, Free Worm and Dj Mulder . In the jungle tent he met DJ Walkinstick, from Pittsburgh (USA), who in the previous year had played out in the states of Rio de Janeiro and Rio Grande do Sul. Fabio helped the Brazilian national drum n bass scene to expand when, in 2004, he established international connections. A partnership has been created with David Crossley, Dj Davy, Jungle Nation Crew U.K who along with Dj Tez, Jungle Nation Crew U.K are responsible for the introduction of broken beats to the north-west of Great Britain with big names such as: Roni Size , Ed Rush , Andy C , Grooverider, amongst others, who are all part of this international network. .. Compartir.... .. Fabio raised the flag for national drum n bass on New Years Eve 2002. He was invited by the organizers, the principle Brazilian mobile phone company (TIM), to play at Geribá beach in Búzios, Rio de Janeiro in front of 50,000 people. In his numerous trips to the south of Brazil, Fabio Machado has shared his pick ups with the Organizers (Cardoso and Nes, Residents of NEO, Firpo, Nando Barth, Krass, Carlos NC, Navarro and Dani amongst others) being introduced on Radio Ipanema FM, Porto Alegre, where he played live. In April 2004, he was invited to participate at Mix Bazzar (BEAT. MIX), a fashion fair in Porto Alegre (international edition: Never Enough London UK). In the Northeast of Brazil, Fabio, for two years running, took part in the music festival MADA (Música Alimento da Alma). With a great friend of his (Dj Cleston), he scratched and mixed tunes like music from the Rio band Acid X, and shared numerous sets with DETONAUTAS. In 2005, he was invited by the Governor of Paraiba to represent Rio de Janeiro in the final edition of XI FERNART the National Art Festival in Joo Pessoa, along side the big names of MPB such as: Elba Ramalho and the Symphony Orquestra of Paraiba, Tom Zé, Cordel do Fogo Encantado, Totonho and the Cabras, Mombojó, Chico Cesar, Chico Correia and his eletronic Band & Botéco Elétrico. In partnership with Oversonics (Djs: Astek, Falcão e Uel) he learnt more about the northeastern electro scene. He has been working with a group of Drum n Bass & Techno producers and Djs to create a future link of Brazilian E-MUSIC. In Rio he used to play with an old-school drum n bass Crew: Marcelinho da Lua, Calbuque and Yanay and, in events such as Mercado Mundo Mix (World Market Mix) and Coca-Cola Vibezone (Porto Alegre 2003, 2005 and Rio de Janeiro ), along side Dom Negrone, Nado Leal, Calbuque ,José Roberto Mahr, Edinho, Mario Z, Ângelo B, Marcelinho da Lua e Dj Marky. In December of 2oo7 Fabio Play in Santiago wich varios important Djs of Drum and Bass, Jungle , DuB and Hip Hop , names wich ; Fat Pablo , Nakeye, Dj Dacel , Dj Spacio , Theego , Roots Selector , Haiti and Cruz , Potoco Records and mcs : Chiko mc , Mc Juan e Pab. Pon fotos sin limite en slide.com GRATIS!!! In April 2008, Fabio made of tour of Chile visiting Val Paraíso, Vinã Del Mar and Santiago. He was invited by Potoco Records, led by Foex, a highly regarded producer in the South Amercian underground Hip-Hop scene, to showcase his productions in the Cine Arte Alameda, the cultural centre in Santiago, alongside Anita Tijoux, DJ Nakeye, DJ Prezz and DJ Spacio at the record release of Solo de Medina, a well-known singer in Chile. While in Val Paraíso, Fabio was invited by Charquipunk to play at an underground club. On his return to Santiago, Roots Selekta (now known as Rootz Hi-Fi with his custom built soundsystem) invited Fabio to play two gigs at the Galpon 9 club. Black Soul and DJ Pi (members of the Jungle Soldiers, Chile) invited Fabio to play in their collective at their weekly night along with DJ Navy (Australia) and MC Pad (Canada). In the second week of the trip, there were more surprises for the Brazilian DJ. Returning to the Cine Arte Alameda, Fabio represented the Brazilian flag once more playing at Rewind, a night organised by the resident DJ Theego, alongside the Hip-Hop group Elefante Mecânico and DJ Deep Man. Fabio was given the chance to play a set on a radio station run by Fat Pablo ( Cajá de Ritmo - Drum Machine) on 97.7 FM (Radio Zero.) The set gave a good overview of drum n’ bass from Rio de Janeiro including tunes by J3, Helena Cutter, Marcelinho da Lua, Bossa Cuca Nova , Drummagic and DJ Andy as well as Fabio’s own tracks. He also did some recording at estúdio3radio.com owned by Rootz and Fat. Shortly before returning to Rio de Janeiro, Fabio was invited by DJ Roach and Fat Pablo (Tsunami Productions, Chile – UK) to play at the Bar Grand Central, a reknowned club in Santiago where Chile’s best drum n’ bass nights take place. .. A word of thanks: This trip was only made possible because DJ Nakeye, Fat Pablo & Rootz Selekta were responsible for all the logistical and international support. My thanks go out to these breddrins from the bottom of my heart. Many thanks, Fabio Machado In the last Rio Carnival he was invited by the Council to represent in Lapa. He is now a resident Dj with Selectah, a group which plays electro music in the streets for free while collecting food for local communities. He frequently plays out at the Buraco Cinema ((FunkaDumpaCariocaBreaks)), accompanied by his official MC, Mario Z (The Best Lirical Junglist Soldier). He is now dedicating much of his time to his own productions with an urban Drum n Bass & Break Beats crew (Criollos Sound System), consistently creating beats that are guaranteed to be exploding onto the dance floors very soon both in Brazil and abroad.
