Damian Hand and Charlie Casey embarked on their sonic adventures in 1994 with their Akasha Theme being featured on D J Bizness' seminal EP PD3. This brought them to the attention of the fledgling Wall of Sound label with whom they worked throughout the1990's. Now widely recognised as the original purveyors of noirish Jazadelic music , the akasha sound has developed over the years into an ever more eclectic melting pot of musical mayhem and genre defying twists. Expect the unexpected on each new track.
They have released 2 albums,"Cinematique" 1998 (which featured vocals from Maxi Jazz and Neneh Cherry) and the dark and eerie "Love Philtre Magick" 2003. Numerous 12"s and a clear vinyl 7"(rare) are mostly still available through their website www.akasha.co.uk.
Their third album "Smoke" has recently been completed and marks a return to their chilled and jazzy roots. A couple of taster tracks are posted here. This album wil be released summer 07.
Check the video for the title track.
The new album features a guest vocal from St. Etienne's Sarah Cracknell."The Last Weekend" is a very english sounding jazzy sixties end of the affair story - check out the sampler available here.
Live Akasha performances have become cult events in London aswell at festivals throughout Europe including the mama of them all Glastonbury. Incorporating electronic sequences , improvisational elements , moody fender rhodes , fat drums , crazy baby guitar, screaming funky horns, rock solid bass and madcap samples its a heady brew.
Charlie and Damian have played with various other artists including Lemon Jelly, The Divine Comedy, Van Morrison, Neneh Cherry, Maxi Jazz , Jerry Dammers Spatial AKA orchestra , James Hunter and David Axelrod
