AKO are the sound of what happens when musical styles collide. Every now and then along comes a band that are willing to push things that little bit further, open up the envelope and see what the fuck's inside. It's called 'doing your own thing' and that's exactly what Bristol based AKO have been doing since they haphazardly met each other while learning their craft playing in various teenage punk, rock and hardcore bands in Bristol.
Their ability to harmonise acts as a superb contrast and compliment to the full-throttle and intricate riffing being cranked from their amps and their live shows are positively explosive. Each time they get onstage it’s as if someone has lit fire crackers under their feet as the band detonate across the stage and quite literally throw themselves into the songs, playing each track with maximum energy and conviction.
In May 2001, AKO released their debut album 'Find Yourself' on Trash City Records. The album went down a storm with the rock press, prompting gushing reviews from the likes of Kerrang! Metal Hammer, Terrorizer, Rocksound and Total Guitar, in turn helping them secure support slots with Shelter, Waterdown, Stampin' Ground, AFI (who considered AKO to be the best band they'd played with that tour) and more recently, Midtown, Alkaline Trio, Stone Sour and Hot Water Music.
Personal tragedy and musical disillusionment have caused members to quit and rejoin, but they have stuck together, grown stronger and their time is most definitely now. AKO are ready to take on the world with a sound they can truly call their own - best heard on their recent four-track EP titled 'Tomorrow Night's Regret' or their newest release, a single called 'The Last Goodbye', on Trash City Records and Naked Ambition Records respectively. Tracks like 'Never Wanted This' and 'Last Goodbye' show a band coming into their own and pushing themselves to hone their sound and perfect their art. In short, AKO's latest release will tear your face off. If you want comparisons, think AFI, think Boysetsfire, then stop fucking thinking and just let the music uplift and energize you. You sure as hell won't regret it!
