Personal influences :all friends, family and people close to me. Djing influences: premier, q-bert, revolution, babu, j-rocc mr thing, tony vegas, prime cuts, plus one, melo-d, craze, infamous, jazzy jeff. Hip hop influences: gang starr, lord finesse, big daddy kane, pete rock & CL, eric b & rakim, dilated peoples and too many more to list.
I go by the name of dj ak-one. A and K are my initials and a "one" just for the hell of it.
Anyway, I started djing back in 96/97 after my brother's friend introduced me to the art of hip hop mixing and scratching. It all grew from there. A year spent hard at work trying to mix and then a bit of scratching, then some doubling and you're on your way.
My tools of the trade have always been 2 technics 1200's. After 8/9 years they're still going strong, so for me its money well spent. My mixer at the moment is a Vestax 07 ISP. Some ortofon scratch needles allow me to rinse the crap out of my vinyl without exposing my heavy hands as they grip the vinyl like glue.
I hooked up with teone specone in 2003 and started performing at hoochinoo gigs around London. We formed abstractions after teone introduced me to grief as well as the rest of the Receptor records crew.
My first mix CD "all mixed up" was released on Receptor in September 2004 and another edition is in the pipelines.
