Excitement and variety are the cornerstones of Akoustic Odyssey performances. Seven of Australia’s finest musicians deliver a banquet of rock baroque, Latin jazz, classical heavy metal, Mediterranean, and Middle-Eastern styles with just a touch of funk. From percussive rhythms and haunting chord progressions to the plaintive violin and lilting oboe, Akoustic Odyssey delivers a rich and fulfilling musical experience.
Born in 2005 as "Highly Strung", the band won the 2006 Adelaide Fringe Peoples Choice Award, and was nominated for it again in 2007. This was followed by nominations for Most Outstanding Group and Most Outstanding CD Release in the 2008 and 2009 SA Folk Federation Awards
Tracks from both the original self-titled CD, and the recently released album Ilios (August 2008) are regularly heard on Adelaide radio. All works are original and composed by band members Joshua Tsounis and Stephan Richter.
All released music is for sale at good music stores in SA, including; All Big Star Records (Adelaide, Magill, Norwood & Marion), Krypton Discs (Jetty Rd, Glenelg), John Davis Music (Twin St Plaza, Adelaide) and Mr V Music (Adelaide & Semaphore). You can also purchase online at www.folktrax.com and tracks can also be downloaded from iTunes
On March the 7th 2009 Akoustic Odyssey played to a large and energetic crowd at WOMADelaide, one of the premier music festivals in their home town. After recording a few tracks at EMT's warehouse studio in Glynde (video of Odyssey recorded live in the studio has been uploaded to YouTube and can be viewed on this page) they flew to Canberra for the 2009 National Folk Festival held over the Easter Long Weekend.
Akoustic Odyssey are thrilled to have been invited to perform as the feature act for the AbaF and Ruby Awards on the 8th September this year at the Dunstan Playhouse. The awards are a collaboration between The Australia Business Arts Foundation and Arts SA, and will be a fantastic opportunity for the band to strut their stuff in front of industry big guns.
Hello!!! It's been awhile - sorry there hasn't been in any Australian shows for many months but we've been busy in Europe with a bunch of touring and we're now recording our new album in Berlin (scheduled for release in March). But to make up for it, here's a big (and silly) Merry Christmas from us (and from some hippos too) :
Some bold new artistic direction? Nah, Just us being silly!!! We did this track for our label's "Black Snow - the completely different Xmas compilation". (and of course, visit our youtube channel for a high quality version)
Wishing you a very silly Silly Season and we'll see you back in Australia sometime in 2010!
yeah well done on sunday! if you haven't guessed me and Tom are your dancers... now here's a strange question...but did Josh by any chance teach guitar at bridgewater primary once upon ago..?
Congrats on Womad! Nice score :-) If you're free Friday night we're playing at Live On Light Square - it's our album launch and only SA show for 2009 'cause we're heading back to Europe in a few weeks... (early gig too - starts at 8:00 and we're on at 10:00) Hope you can make it! N&N
