   About Akoya Afrobeat

With a furious storm of thundering congas and the deep boom of the KALETA drum, the Akoya Afrobeat Ensemble takes the stage with an explosion of dance rhythms. 14 pieces make up this fully fledged funk factory. That means FIVE drummers, TWO guitarists, keys, bass, and a full horn section. Madness.

Akoya is comprised of musicians from 6 countries, spanning 4 continents! Our lead singer, Kaleta, performed and recorded with the legendary founder of Afrobeat, Fela Kuti for many years.

With a three year history of refining our groove, Akoya released the debut album Introducing the Akoya Afrobeat Ensemble. 5 killer tracks, available on our website, AKOYAMUSIC.COM.

Akoya’s latest vinyl release is "B.F.B.F." b/w "Jeje L’aiye," the lead single for our new album, P.D.P. [President Dey Pass]. This hot, hot 12" vinyl is available at the following fine online merchants, among others:

Dusty Groove (international)
Turntable Lab (USA)
Rush Hour (EU)
Juno Records (UK)
Coconuts Disk (Japan)

P.D.P. is now available to our friends in Japan courtesy of Rudiments Records, and is available internationally on Afrobomb Music. The album as a whole represents years of composition and meticulous arrangement to stay true to the revolutionary music that dominated both African and American airwaves in the 70’s and 80’s. In Japan, it has been a critical and commercial success, making several end-of-year top ten lists, including Music Magazine, DESERT JAZZ and LIVE DOOR.

The newly released Afrobomb edition of P.D.P. has been met with glowing reviews from ALL MUSIC GUIDE and BLOGCRITICS. To purchase a copy of your own, please click HERE. Thanks for your continued support as we carry on making our statement in Afrobeat.

Dear Akoya Afrobeat

Every time that we write music... play an instrument... dance or act in a play... Something is healing inside...

Every time that we share it with anyone... Something is healing everywhere...

Love can drive... in a simple way... anything

Have a lot of smiles... this week

We are connected
