we like to present creative and innovative work to the peoples, for the peoples, and by the peoples
About me: Our Mission: As The Akron Independent Film Festival, we seek to nurture and inspire film and video artists through the presentation of exceptional and innovative work, and provide opportunities for artistic growth through arts outreach and education.
This year we had a line up of 5 features and 35 shorts, we added workshops such as Lighting, Screenwriting, Basics of Super8, in addition to awards, and a 48hr Video Challenge.
As evidence of the success of this years festival, we saw our workshops fill up even before the festival doors opened, the 48hr challenge had 10 teams with 40 participants, and the quality of work presented was so good we regretted not making room in this years schedule to screen them all! (Something we will change for next year.) In addition, we had screenings selling out every night, and unfortunately had to turn quite a few people away. Next year we plan to have a larger seating capacity so hopefully those who didn't get in this year will be able to next year. Getting to the event early and/or buying tickets in advance will also be key!
We were very humbled by the amount of support we received from the community; With this year being our first real 'break out' year out of the University and into the city, the number of participants in our workshops, 48hr Challengers and butts in seats really shows how much an event like this is desired in our community. Thank you also to those who filled out our festival survey! We plan to use the information gathered from all the survey's to make our 2009 event even better!
Much Love,

Akron Independent Film Festival's Friend Space (Top 20)
I had a great time at the festival this year. Thanks for the poster! Stop in Wednesday evening on May 21 at Musica. We'll be unveiling the new music video for Kate Tucker and the Sons of Sweden. Kate will be there to perform. The show starts at 8pm. All the Best - Miriam
It ain't too late, is it? No, don't tell me it's too late. Never too late. If we ain't 6 feet under, it ain't too late, specially for a good thing. Certainly you got room in the little-known Super-Short-Shorts category.
No, I ain't talkin bout those shorts that look like they might fit a 3-year-old but somehow the 23-year-olds manage to squeeze into 'em and make the retirees reach for their nitro. Which would in and of itself be a good movie. I bet Phil would like that one.
Yeah, snow's all gone so I had to make it preceding the 48-hour Video Challenge. It'd hurt now, and there wouldn't be no angel, just my nose embedded in the dirt. What kinda movie would that be, I ask you?
So, there's my Super-Short-Short, and very faintly in the background, you can hear the soundtrack by a local band called Low in the Snow. Good stuff.
OK, I'm countin' on you, Kendra, git me on the silver screen, because, to quote you, "it would be a shame if our audiences didn't get a chance to see such thought provoking high quality work." Ha!
Greetings Akron Independent Film Festival! Looking for a laugh? Check out the "life's a joke" trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHQtENNNPAw All the Best!
Hey kim-a friend of mine approached me about a DIY theater project, possibly in North akron. He has funding, seating, etc., but is just looking for a few folks to put in a bit o ideas and work. Interested?
Well, it's an odd thing, but I found out about the Akron International Film Fest through the Atlantic Filmmakers Cooperative (AFCOOP.ca) in Halifax. I am from Ohio (Chillicothe) and had not heard anything about AIFF before. Hopefully, I can get a piece put together in time for the fest. Right now, I'm looking for a Super 8 camera. Once I get one, I'll go from there. I've got lots of ideas kicking around.
thanks for the comment on my blog. i am looking forward to the AIFF!! i heard about it from a flyer that was posted in Square Records. Peace and solidarity. -Christina
