Our Mission: At Akron Film, we seek to nurture and inspire local media arts content creation, and strengthen the local film community through our annual film festivals, and ongoing monthly programs. All of which are held at the beautiful Akron Art Museum.
The Akron Independent Film Festival was founded by Rob Lucas in 2002. He ran the event at The University of Akron’s Gardner Student Center that year and the next. In 2006 and 2007, the UA student filmmaking organization “The 2380 Project” hosted the fest at the new Student Union Theater. In September 2007, a new team of five board members, drawn from “The 2380 Project” and the community, incorporated the festival and attained 501(c)3 nonprofit status. In July 2009, the organization's name was changed to simply “Akron Film” to accommodate our growing range of programs.

Thanks for a great film festival! I din't have to bum much money at all to get in. And thanks, Kendra, for the pencil, I filled out my survey with the honest-to-goodness truth of the matter.
I had one difficulty with the proceedings, and that was the total exclusion of my history in the origination of Superman. Brad Ricca knows what I'm talking about. There I was, finishing off my bottle of Thunderbird, really flyin', I mean really flyin' high, when I see some hoodlum stealin' a car stereo out of a '32 Ford. Now that ain't right. Especially since the Cleveland Police just got done throwin' my ragged ass in the slammer for 3 days for jaywalkin'. So I swooped down into the situation, and there's these two guys off to the side, too chicken to do anything, by the name of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, sayin' "Is that a bird? Is that a plane?"
And I says, "No, I'm Baler, make that SuperBaler, and this punk ain't fencin' this car stereo!" And I took it, and wouldn't you know it, there's a Ten Teeth of Twenty CD in the stereo. So Siegel and Shuster shuffle off, draw a cartoon, make a million, and leave me penniless. Meanwhile, the only witness to support my side of the story is a punk with a crowbar and my bootprint on his butt.
Needless to say, I'm still livin' under the bridge.
There ain't no justice. But now the truth be told, it was I, I, Balertwine of lore, who was the one behind the creation of Superman, and may it be so recorded for all posterity. Thank you for allowin' me to clarify this.
