[PRINCE MADOC FUNDRAISER]The purpose of the Prince Madoc Fundraiser is to procure the funds to create a memorial to honor one of America’s first explorer’s. What we need, besides actual funds, are ideas from each of you of ways to raise money for this endeavor. Some idea’s are:
1) selling bricks with the purchaser’s name engraved on it, 2)placing a plaque with each donators name listed, 3) concert fundraiser, 4) recruit other Welsh Societies to hold local fundraisers.
Another idea that we would like to pursue is having a Park in Alabama named after Prince Madoc. Any help or suggestions with this are greatly appreciated.

About me: Alabama is home to an untold number of Welsh and Welsh-descendants who are invited to make their voices heard. Most Southerners know of their families Celtic ancestry whether it is Irish or Scottish. However, many are unaware that their family name is actually Welsh. Surnames such as Jones, Morgan, Evans, Lloyd, Roberts, James, Price and Williams had their origins in ancient Wales.
The Alabama Welsh Association wishes to add to the Celtic legacy of the South and Alabama by bringing a Welsh presence to the public. If you or someone you know is a decendant of the Welsh or if you have an interest in "all things Welsh", we invite you to join us today!
The Alabama Welsh Association was founded in 2006 to preserve and nuture our Welsh heritage in Alabama. We are about to celebrate our two (2) year anniversary on March 4th, 2008. As we continue to grow throughout Alabama we invite those Welsh born, or of Welsh decent or anyone that is interested in Welsh culture, language and history to join us. AWA is a non-profit, non-sectarian and non-political organization. Membership dues are minimal and used entirely for operating costs, and Welsh related projects.
AWA affiliated with other Welsh and Welsh-American Organizations including the National Welsh-American Foundation and the Welsh National Gymanfa Ganu Association.

Who I'd like to meet: We would like to meet those that are Welsh born, or of Welsh descent, or anyone throughout Alabama who is interested in Welsh culture, language and history.
Membership is open to Welsh natives, Welsh decendants, and anyone interested in all things Welsh. We offer regular monthly meetings for those who wish to participate, and at least (3) three annual events. Currently those events are the St. Patrick's Day parade in Birmingham, A Spring Gatherin, and a Christmas party.
If you would like to join AWA, please email us and request a membership form to be sent to you via email, or U.S. mail.
Please contact us at alabamawelsh@yahoo.com to for AWA meeting information. If you would like to start a chapter in your area contact Billy Price at cscitizen@alltel.net.
Hey! That was quick. Thank you very much. I recently read an article about a Welsh Prince discovering Alabama and a tribe of Indians who had a version of Welsh until they died out in the early 20th century. Do you know this story?
