About me: Sponsored by END OF AN EAR RECORDS and DEWAR'S FINEST SCOTCH WHISKEY!
In 2003, the Music Monday series started at Austin's Alamo Drafthouse Cinema: every Monday at 9:45-ish pm at the Alamo at The Ritz (320 E. 6th St, Austin TX) you can see a different music-related film for only $2 admission (or $1 for students/seniors/AFS members), and food & drink specials.
Statement from series founder: "I'm no music expert by any means, but I love music and I'm eternally curious about it; and as with most things, the more you know, the more you realize how little you actually know. So if you come to Music Monday regularly, not only will you hear some great music you already know and love, you'll also inevitably discover new bands, new songwriters and producers, and new connections between artists and their influences that you might not have known about before. With the exception of some classic rep titles in 35mm and 16mm, these are all local theatrical premieres; festival-quality programming at prices even the piss-poor can't scoff at. From classic rock-docs to obscure in-house compilations, from new wave to country, Music Mondays have something for every inclination. Hanging out with other music fans in the lobby is always fun too."
SPECIALS! Free large popcorn with purchase of a bucket of beer at all Music Mondays! Free large soda or $2 Alamo Ale w/ purchase of a pizza! (Yes, because this is a discount series I'm forced to flog you with the food specials, which is how we keep it going)

"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
