    Alana's Interests
GeneralI like cooking (and any cooking show featuring Alton Brown). I also like to crochet and knit and do arty things. I have 4 guinea pigs named Spike, Homer, Fudge and Elvis and a hamster named Binky. In my spare time, I also design t-shirts and sell them on the internet, and I do all kinds of drawing and writing on my web page.
MusicI listen to all kinds of stuff, but a lot of it is bands no one has ever heard of. Poor Old Lu, RoseBlossomPunch, Aaron Sprinkle, Fine, Pedro the Lion, Damien Jurado, Starflyer 59, Viva Voce, Over the Rhine, Sixpence None the Richer, K's Choice, Nirvana, Radiohead, silverchair, Moby, and old standards like The Beatles, The Monkees, Elvis, and The Beach Boys.
MoviesThe Princess Bride, Schindler's List, Dancer In the Dark, Serenity, Trainspotting, Cannibal the Musical, Dodgeball, 50 First Dates, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Moulin Rouge, Shrek, Napoleon Dynamite, and lots of other movies.
TelevisionBuffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, Mythbusters, Good Eats, Iron Chef America, Extreme Dodgeball, The Simpsons, Futurama, Scrubs, CSI, Bones, Criminal Minds, Eggheads, QI, Conan O'Brien, and just about anything on the Discovery Channel or Animal Planet.
BooksI'll read anything by C.S. Lewis, G.K. Chesterton and J.R.R. Tolkein. I'll also read anything by Mike Nelson from Mystery Science Theater. But lately I read a lot of stuff by Terry Pratchett and Kathy Reichs. I really liked "Perfume" by Patrick Suskind and "Good In Bed" by Jennifer Weiner. I collect and read old cookbooks, especially from the 50's, 60's and 70's. I really enjoy mysteries, but don't have any particular affinity for any mystery authors apart from Chesterton and Arthur Conan Doyle.
HeroesC.S. Lewis, Philip Yancey, Martin Luther King Jr., Menno Simons, and Fred Rogers. In a lesser way,Joss Whedon, Jim Henson, Robert Rodriguez, Trey Parker.

I'm an American girl living in Scotland. My husband is from here. I grew up in Duluth, and lived in Seattle for a long time. I am the webmaster of www.girlalive.com. I have a degree in history and I'd eventually like to be a writer of some description. For the moment, I work at the Royal Infirmary, reading about other people's bleeding genitals.
The Movie Of Your Life Is A Cult Classic
Quirky, offbeat, and even a little campy - your life appeals to a select few.
But if someone's obsessed with you, look out! Your fans are downright freaky.

Your best movie matches: Office Space, Showgirls, The Big Lebowski

You Are a Smart American
You know a lot about US history, and you're opinions are probably well informed.
Congratulations on bucking stereotypes. Now go show some foreigners how smart Americans can be.

Who I'd like to meet:
Ewan McGregor, Joss Whedon, and pretty much anyone from Lord of the Rings. But more realistically, I am bored out of my mind, and I'd like someone to hang out with who is not my husband. I don't have any friends here yet because there are not nearly enough geek girls in this country.

The students of psychiatry were attending their first class on emotional extremes.

"Just to establish some parameters," said the professor to the student from Arkansas, "What is the opposite of joy?"

"Sadness," said the student.

And the opposite of depression?" he asked of the young lady from Oklahoma.

"Elation," said she.

"And you sir," he said to the young man from Texas, "how about the opposite of woe?"

The Texan replied, "Sir, I believe that would be giddy-up."

Thought you might find this mildly amusing... It's the mini-movie of me & Queen Elizabeth II playing poker... It features my good mate Leo Sayer (yes, the 70's pop icon!) as the Queen and is now viewable on the web, courtesy of the folks at youtube.com (although whoever copied it to youtube unfortunately clipped off the punchline at the very end!)..

It also features a guest appearance from Little Britain's Steve Furst....

A nutty little performance, but it was a good laugh doing it!

You can see it on either my myspace page or at youtube:

Lotsa love,

Wrote a new song recently called "Just Because". I've recorded it live for British Forces Radio and it's proving to be a big hit with all the soldiers serving abroad. I've added the track to my music player, available to download for free as an early Xmas present for all my myspace friends...

Please feel free to email the MP3 to your friends & family, especially anyone you know who's gonna be away from loved ones this Xmas...

All Love,
Todd xx

JUST BECAUSE...
(© sharpville 2006)

Just because you cannot see me today
it doesn't mean I'm far away
Just because you cannot touch me my dear
it doesn't mean that I'm not near

Given time you're gonna realise
that I surround you rain or shine
Just because I love you more than life itself
i'm with you all the time…

Just because we have to live apart
it doesn't keep you from my heart
I did everything a man could do
But none of this was up to me (or you)

If you close your eyes and listen hard
you'll hear me whispering through the pines
Just because I love you more than life itself
i'm with you all the time…

middle 8
And my soul is aching
I know you're aching too
Still, this road cannot break me
'cause I know it takes me back to you...

Just because you're feeling sad and alone
it doesn't mean you're on your own
Just because we all get old & frail
it doesn't mean our love will not prevail

Given time you're gonna realise
your daddy never left your side
Just because I love you more than life itself
i'm with you all the time…
