   Alan Chin's Blurbs
About me:
At birth I was christened, Alan Lewis Hurlburt. I was raised in San Jose, California where I enjoyed an undistinguished childhood. After graduating high school, I served four years in the U.S. Navy where I practiced the trade of aircraft mechanic.   I attended San Francisco State University, studying the field of Data Processing, and afterwards enjoyed a twenty year career working my way from computer programmer to manager of several software development groups. In 1991, I went back to night school and years later graduated from the University of San Francisco with a BS in Economics and a Masters in Creative Writing.  In 1999, I retired from Information Technology to devote all my time to my three hobbies: writing, traveling, and tennis. During that same timeframe, I legally changed my name to Alan Chin, so that I could share the same family name as my husband, Herman Chin.   I turned serious about my writing in 2002, and began working on my first novel, Island Song. While preparing for the publication debut of that novel (Sept, 2008 by Zumaya Publications,) I completed a second novel, The Changi Lover, which will also be published by Zumaya Publications in 2009. I am currently working on a third novel and a collection of short stories.  I live and write half of each year at my home in Northern California, and spend the other half of each year traveling the globe.

Thanks for being a new MySpace friend. It's been a juggernaut, but "IF THE RAINS DON'T CLEANSE" (my novel about my parents' experiences as schoolteachers in 1950s Africa) is finally available on Amazon.com. In fact, it's selling so well it's been marked "out of stock" for several days -- thank God they're still shipping it. It's getting strong reviews and a grown-up readership -- I'm thrilled. I invite you to visit my MySpace blog to read an excerpt.
