Former drummer for AOR rock band Shy from
1980-2000. I Played on five albums during this time: Once bitten twice (Ebony
records) :Brave the Storm (RCA records) :Excess All Areas (RCA records)
:Misspent youth (MCA records) and finally :Welcome to the madhouse (Granite
records), Working with producers such as Tony Platt, Neil Kernon, Roy Thomas
Baker and Simon Hanhart. We toured with artists such as Magnum,
Twelfth Night, UFO, Twisted Sister, Meat Loaf, Gary Moore, Bon Jovi, Enuff z Nuff
and Sleeze Beez, and Hunter and Ronson. I have also played at some
great festivals such as Reading festival in the UK and The Winter Palace in St
Petersburg, Russia and not forgetting Shiley's Acres, West Virginia. USA. I have
since taken up the guitar and like to record a lot of my own material which due
to my up bringing and the bands that influenced me, tends to lean towards AOR, I
really enjoy singing and working on backing vocal harmonies and the whole aspect
of recording and building up the songs.
On the recording side I have recently decided to make the jump from my Sony Vaio and
Cubase sx3 to a Mac and Pro Tools, and at this point I am still at the "why can't it do that"
and "why the f*&k won't it do this" stage, I do tend to dive right in and suffer from a lack
of what is known in the trade as 'RTFM' syndrome (Read The F*&king Manual)
I have unfortunately neglected writing my own material for such a long time now but this
has given me a great incentive to 'get back on the horse' as they say, so I can get to grips
with Pro Tools as I write some new songs, I will of course upload them as and when
they are finished for anyone who would like to hear them.
If you like my songs please
leave a comment, I'll look forward to reading it. Kind regards, Alan Kelly.

Hey Alan, nice video from the ORIGINAL SHY line up,man!everyone had the "mallet" haircut back then, and were is Steve...? :-) Steve blonde!? by the way, that was 1 of my most fave Shy songs.good choice, even though the streaming loses synchronicity between sound, and vision. 1 have found another review, which i have uploaded on the blog.this time from The 3 Eras effort...it keeps getting better...!this time we probably sound like a 70's band...yeah,endless solos, lsd, and anti-Vietnam anthems...that's us! Babis
Found my Shy Cassette the other day and was letting my little ones hear it ! Recalled you were on the friends list ! Rock on Brother Man ! we are heading in to lay down some new songs in Aug.
Geez! That's a bit of a rock n roll story. Great that you got the Harley though! Hope the next ride out goes a bit more smoothly once the garage have returned it. At least you're still in once piece mate!
You've been busy mate! I stay away from myspace for 5 minutes and you've pretty much updated all of your songs. They sound great.
I'm afraid the kit's gone to a new loving home - I enjoyed playing it, but it was in danger of letting me down with the pounding I was giving it.
So...back to eBay again. I managed to 1st buy a 24" Signia bass drum, then found a floor tom and just bought a 14" tom. Before long I hope to have a full Signia kit from the early 90's!
Anyway, hope all is going well and speak to you sometime soon.
Hi alan. Taking each day as it comes along thanks. Falling is now rather special as it was played at the end of the cremation.... Did you ever see the episode of Hold Tight (ITV kids programme) where they played the song. Great performance! Catch you soon mate. Dave
I liked the new song Vital Signs. And you could put a band with your son. Seems like you've written enough songs to put at least 2 albums! Can't you get any deals yet? Song is pretty heavy!!
Love the "CHURCH" song Alan. It's very heavy for your kinda song!! Screaming vocals and loud guitar and fast heavy beating drums... mmm... More please!!
What's up? Sorry rather very late reply. Seems like you are still AORing? Sorry I haven't had much chance to listen to your new tunes. I will when I get the time. I've been rather busy this time of the year. Not so much around mid march.
Anyways 6 Villa players playing for England!! Great huh? I'm excited about this wednesday's Spain v England cos Spain haven't been beaten for 20 or 30 matches friendly and competitive games so we've got to beat the Spanish bastards!!
I'm still doing same old shit part time English teaching and new stuff is wood carving, bit of running, football and occasional tits bar!! lol
Hope everything is cool with you man. You should get in touch with Andy Boulton of Tokyo Blade. He still lives in Wiltshire and I think it's not that far from Cornwall? He's into all kind of music so maybe you make band with him!
