Miss Alanna Johan - Words etc.'s Blurbs
About me:

Full Name: Miss Alanna Johan Blaney.

In Literary Description: A mental peruser of prose, driven inexplicably to share her verbal vindication verbatim with all who care to read it.

Documenting a life of using words to make her world a better place.

(Read: A Writer)

Previous publications include Writing Magazine, Future Voices Anthology, and Crannog Magazine, amidst other independent publications.

Scattered liberally amidst self-portraiture (for vanity is a terrible curse), a small collection of words, unintended for other publication or free from copyright, can be found here: DeviantArt.

Website coming soon. In the mean time, solicitations, enquiries, criticism, praise and perversions to be directed to the following email: alannajohan@aim.com

Otherwise Known As: Alanna (Johan optional)

In general description:Born and raised in North London to a Scottish journalist and Irish scientist, now based in South West England, where I divide my time on various endeavours, none of which involve farming (which is what occupies most of this part of the country).

As you may have noticed, I write. I also run the administrative and PR aspects of the Mini restoration and modification business of which my partner is designer and fabricator. Website coming soon, but enquiries are welcome.

My other main occupations are as an Alaskan Malamute owner and general animal obsessive (tropical eels, bengal cats and pythons, strong examples of those which have crossed my path and I would like to do so again) and an aspiring freestlye/freeride motocrosser. Both take up too much of my time and yet never enough.

Otherwise my interests and current aims - listed in abstraction in the column to your left - include all aspects of couture and fashion in its most creative sense (including its performance and recording in the everyday world), lots and lots of car stuff from hot rod bonnet posing and japanese engine tuning to off-roading / rock crawling (because I do oh so like running around with the winch cable in the rain), literature (there is an inherent geekiness in me I cannot deny) and general debauchery. But then we all like that.

That'll do for now. If you wanna know, you know which button to press (hint: the one that involves you saying something to me in a manner which will illicit an appropriate response).

^^

Who I'd like to meet:

My prose intends to socialise with it's one-off readers, critics, associates, fanatics, silent appreciators and general literary lunatics.

I am more interested in those with something to offer beyond vaccuous insinuations of friendship. The nutcases of this world who might be able to get a long with Duck are also welcomed.

Since I'm passing briefly through Myspaceland, just thought I would express once more how much I enjoyed our phone conversation yesterday. We should do it again sometime soon. (Says Erich until he gets the bill in the mail and forever after CURSES the name of Alanna!!!)

Thanks, my dear. I'm glad for the message. And I do recall the photo. ;)

Likely won't be any carousing today though. There is no one here for me to party with and I'll have to be right back at work in the morning. I have absolutely no idea what I intend to do...

Hello, my dear.

Your letter will soon be in the mail, but will require a rewrite first (yes, I even edit items of general correspondence). I was reasonably drunk when I wrote it and I won't put the added strain on your weary eyes of having to translate my wretched chicken scratch. And also, you are NOT allowed to compare my hand-writing to that of your female friend again. Emasculate me with all the auto talk you want, but implying feminine penmanship is a deal breaker. I won't talk to ya no mores! ;)

Okay, I'm off. Hope you are well, Alanna. Look forward to your return and may it be soon.
:)

ITHACA
By C.P. Cavafy

When you start on your journey to Ithaca,
then pray that the road is long,
full of adventure, full of knowledge.
Do not fear the Lestrygonians
and the Cyclopes and the angry Poseidon.
You will never meet such as these on your path,
if your thoughts remain lofty, if a fine
emotion touches your body and your spirit.
You will never meet the Lestrygonians,
the Cyclopes and the fierce Poseidon,
if you do not carry them within your soul,
if your soul does not raise them up before you.

Then pray that the road is long.
That the summer mornings are many,
that you will enter ports seen for the first time
with such pleasure, with such joy!
Stop at Phoenician markets,
and purchase fine merchandise,
mother-of-pearl and corals, amber and ebony,
and pleasurable perfumes of all kinds,
buy as many pleasurable perfumes as you can;
visit hosts of Egyptian cities,
to learn and learn from the wise ones.

Always keep Ithaca in your mind.
To arrive there is your ultimate goal.
But do not hurry the voyage at all.
It is better to let it last for long years;
and finally to anchor at the isle when you are old,
rich with all that you have gained on the way,
not expecting that Ithaca will offer you riches.

Ithaca has given you the beautiful voyage.
Without her, you would never have taken the road.
But she has nothing more to give you.

And if you find her poor, Ithaca has not deceived you.
With the great wisdom you have gained, with so much experience,
you must already have understood by then what these Ithacas mean.

Five Haiku

The wind
Undecided
Rolls a cigarette of air

The mute girl talks:
It is art's imperfection.
This impenetrable speech.

The motor car is truly launched:
Four martyrs' heads
Roll under the wheels.

Ah! a thousand flames, a fire,
The light, a shadow!
The sun is following me.

A feather gives to a hat
A touch of lightness:
The chimney smokes.

Package for Alanna?
CHECK
Long line of bleary eyed customers before me?
CHECK
Irrate mother at the end of her rope with two whiny kids wandering about knocking things over?
CHECK
Erich confused about how to ship overseas and wondering just why they need him to list every fucking thing in the box ON the box? (what if it was a surprise, eh?)
CHECK
Incredibly rude and bitchy postal worker at the counter?
CHECK
45 minutes spent doing what should have taken 5?
CHECK

Translations?
1 week until your package arrives. The druidic teleportation service required a blood sacrifice (and I didn't have one ON me) and the pixie dust was entirely too overpriced. Hence, you'll just have to make due with standard shipping.

Well I think you should have called it the "Miss Alanna Johann - Super Fantanstic Awesome Rocking Hard In Your Face Fist Punching Word EXTRAVAGANZA!!!" But that's just me. I've been writing for much longer and obviously I have far more style with titles than you do. :P

How are you, my dear? Relishing our next chat for the content as well as the ever-present mystery of its sequence. Soon I hope. :)

-Words, etc. sounds prettier than Writing Of. I approve of this change in textual headlines. For it was awesome. We should arrange for a threesome tea session with Hil, for I have no instant messaging system currently, and thus have no way of chatting otherwise!

GO!
Oh damn...twisted my writing finger. You'll have to go on without me, Alanna...gasp...I can't...wheeze...make it...except to crawl over to this table and jot down bland poetry while nodding artistically to myself.
Of course, when you're rich and famous, I "will" be dropping your name at parties just to impress people. It's the least I can do...for myself. :P
