Alasvals is Ethereal music with a touch of Folk, Trip Hop, Jazz and Experimental. Lyrics reflexes a look into the inner life, the discovering of new ways, the constant travelling around the world trying to find a place under the Sun.

Argentinean vocalist Silvia Demetilla sings in a kind of sultry Astrud Gilberto
style, though with more versatility - one song half way through had her singing
a capella which was lovely". / Know the Ledge-London Jazz Festival

"When Alasvals started to play, the environment of the room immediately was transformed to receive the whispers and the dreams of the Argentinean singer,
illustrated by a wise projection of images that hypnotized to the congregated
audience towards the sonorous universe of the promising formation of Buenos Aires/ Mónica Bergos- Minka, London

The vocal melodies are so strikingly beautiful at times and such a nice effect when contrasted against Silvias spoken words.

At the beginning... SILVIA DEMETILLA, Argentine architect arrived in London in 2001. Immediately she began to feel that music was her life-path (survival-path, even?), the big city and a new creative manner in which she was ready to start reflecting her feelings through the music, showing her interior world and translating that to those who might listen to that memorable and melancholy place, where the past & present live together, a new perception of reality; the changes were inspired by the circumstances of emigrating, the personal anxieties all of these combining into a certain Argentine nostalgia evoked by her velvety and rhythmic voice. At the very begginning of the story Silvia was playing as a lead singer for a few bands in London, including trip hop band Lautrec. Then, the singer and songwriter was born...

then...DAVID AGUIRRE is an Argentine musician and filmmaker. He lives in a derelict building in Buenos Aires turned into a personal recording studio called La Panaderia (The Bakery). Sometimes he believes that he is J.D.Salinger living in South America. And who knows... www.myspace.com/davemaguirre

in the meanwhile...FERNANDO GOMEZ - (NANDO)- is an eclectic percussionist from Madrid, Spain. He adds a folk touch to Alasvals songs. Flamenco and African/ Latin American percussionist! Ole! He appeared in 2006 from nowhere and he has been an active member since then.
UniversalFilia... (Universal Frienship)... There were a life before... There is a story to tell...UNIVERSALfilia....................................................................
Nando sadly passed away on 2nd November 2008. We worked together since early 2006... Sadness is an immense feeling, an amazing dress we didn..t expect to fit... Probably time will pass and with patience we will be as happy as we used to be... But all the memories are going to be here for ever, in our hearts, in our music... We are really sure that Nando is going to guide our footsteps since now. We are really sure...
As another way to remember our friendship we've done a new song called UniversalFilia...

Finally NATALIE SEDWICK, is a violin player with a beautiful and sensitive approach to the songs... Having been a consistent winner of Baildon Music Festival's recorder category, Natalie decided it was time to step up in the world and moved to London.
She has since played violin, viola and melodeon for and in a number of bands from drum 'n' bass outfits, to folk bands, to gothrock / cabaret acts and has a house full of weird and wonderful instruments that one day she hopes to be able to play. Maybe even in public.
She met Silvia thanks to the Arts Council website and has enjoyed creating parts and adapting her style to fit with the 'folktronic' sounds of alasVALS.

WHAT ABOUT alasvals MUSIC?
There's a lot of freedom within our music. The first thing was trying to explore something about folk, electronic and cinematic. We started with the folktronic boom after all (Devendra/ Juana Molina/ Coco Rosie).
The story of how the collaboration came about is a nice tale. "I found that David was a groupie of Lautrec, the band where I was a lead singer between 2002 and 2004. Then we ended up meeting on stage during a concert in Buenos Aires, and it was exactly at that time when I decided I wanted a solo career. So I asked him for some help on my songs. But we had a good chemistry so we could't split separate ways at the end."
Silvia and David met literally on stage @ 2003 in Buenos Aires, during a concert organised by folk singer Mara Gimenez.
Despite the large distances between London and Buenos Aires, they decided to keep working together: Silvia in writing and composing, David by arranging and programming the songs. Silvia has a website for the Argentine community living in London, called “Sapo de otro pozo" www.sapodeotropozo.com.ar which means something like "A Fish out of water" and Latinalternativa www.latinalternativa.co.uk for promoting latin artists in the UK. So, there is a life after something, after-all...

There is also a review by ECTOGUIDE.com: After releasing a promising ep Alasvals strike out with a full-length album of languid electronic bliss. Aguirre's inventive arrangements prevent them from falling into complacency and the warmth of Silvia Demetilla's voice is always there to elevate the songs. If Morcheeba has retained their early promise they might have made this album. "Veo Veo" was on the ep and is still a delightful, slow song. "Pearls" is dreamy and Demetilla's vocals are put to good use. "Ways to the road movie" buzzes with quiet dread and would make an ideal soundtrack song for a thriller. The experimental "Abnormal Puzzle" from the ep is a good track to revisit. This is a stunning and rewarding full-length debut. The electronic pop stylings are well-handled and the vocal is delightful. It recalls Morcheeba's chilled calm and maybe a bit of Björk's eccentricity in the vocal department. "Veo Veo" is supremely languid trip hop. "Abnormal Puzzle" is intriguingly odd, an avant pop experiment with a spoken word bit that fits and a nice backdrop.”

CHILDREN SONGS for JUNE'07 @ PWL OPEN STUDIOS: When Silvia's daughter was one year old (Dec' 06) she produced a CD with children songs as a gift for her. It was a touching experience... Now the band has been asked to produce two children songs for a compilation of Latin American artists in London organised by Pro Peruvian UK and BBC Children in need. The songs were recorded at PWL Open Studios, and you can see the pics on this web.
