   About Albany Poets

Albany Poets is a group dedicated to the advancement of poetry in the Albany area. We organize and help others to promote numerous poetry readings, events, and open mics throughout the area.

ALBANYPOETS.COM
The Albany Poets website, www.albanypoets.com, is getting a makeover. Be sure to check out the site in August for the debut of the all-new site with new features, new poets, new events, and more.

We are always on the lookout for new poets to feature on the site. If you are interested in submitting your work to Albany Poets, send an email to submissions@albanypoets.com with up to five poems and a brief introduction. For full details ..ting, go to www.albanypoets.com.

2009 ALBANY WORD FEST
It is almost that time of year again. The 2009 Albany Word Fest will be taking place Friday and Saturday, April 17 - 18.

We will be kicking things off at the Lark Tavern on the 17th for the annual kick-off cocktail party before heading over to the UAG Gallery for the open mic.

This year we will be having a 12-hour open mic for poetry and spoken word. Each poet will have 10-15 minutes to read their work.

Go to www.albanywordfest.com for more information and to sign up for the open mic.

And while you are at the site, be sure to sign up for our mailing list to get news and event information right in your email inbox.

ALBANY POETS PODCAST Be sure to check out Metroland's Readers Pick for Best Podcast. Go to albanypoets.com/audio and download the poetry and spoken word from Poets Speak Loud, Albany Poets Presents, and more.

“Nothing in the world is more flexible and yielding than water. Yet when it attacks the firm and the strong, none can withstand it, because they have no way to change it. So the flexible overcome the adamant, the yielding overcome the forceful. Everyone knows this, but no one can do it.”

This is the latest video from Michael and I. We put a lot of time and thought into it.

It is different then our last short film "split" which had a prominent purpose and direction for the viewer with dialogue and fitting video.

This one is more open to interpretation and can take the viewer where ever it is they want to go. Rather then having a poem for the audio, we chose piano. Its based somewhat around a dream sequence.

Dreaming is as important as air, food, and water. Without it we die.

I've always suffered from nightmares and night sweats. So I always try to remember and relive my dreams which are beautiful. My most beautiful ones are always based on swimming. I dream I am in a vast ocean swimming along side a school of fish. I feel safe. And I am warm. I tread within the water where everything seems to move in slow motion. where there are no worries of life in the real world. There is only one simple rule under the deep waters of the ocean: eat or be eaten.

In these dreams I'm always moving, I'm under the water floating. floating forward. floating backwards. floating upside down. And I'm weightless.

Brooke~

Dear Albany tribe !

A shame I haven't had the time
To let you know what, to us, matters :
Here's who we are, in a few words,
Or should I say, in a few letters ...

"Le Slamophone is a tribute
To this one lesson we've been missing
To these slam poets who remind us
To get along, we need to listen ..."

Le Slamophone

Aug 13 2008 2:04 PM

Dear Fire Spitter, Dear Wisdom Speaker,

Our bridge has just grown by one more stone !
Please allow me to introduce the fun inside the Slamophone.

It all started with the idea that SLAM is too live, too diverse, each syllable unsellable, every ephemerical verse is way too fierce to be coerced. This new cuisine needs no chef. Tables are turning everywhere, and France cannot be left for deaf.

So with camera in hand, we've taken on the country by storm; videalistic is the spirit, originality the norm. We started out with 50 vids, now we are up to 360, from Montreal down to Marseille, from Pointe-à-Pitre to Gai Paree.

Take any door and come on in. Be curious, you will be served : 360 clips around our way, 360 clicks around the word …

Come on in
