The press strives to perpetuate writing and culture within our community and in the world at large. We push the envelope while respecting the classic, opening channels to contemporary art, encompassing a wide panorama of print media representing a community of passionate, true artists who create dedicated, purposeful work. The press provides a bridge, access to the printed page. Dedicated to supporting language that brings about change and shifts paradigms, both personal and societal. Our books are works of art unto themselves, each one designed uniquely and personally with a strong sense of quality D.I.Y. craftsmanship. We love our community and want to share the amazing talent we see, with it. And in turn, we want to share our community with the world.
Alberta St. Small Press was founded by Paul Evans and H.R. McGonigal.
Paul created Redbird Studio on Alberta St. with his good friend and business partner, Mel Rau. The two designers opened the store in April 2006, with a small artist space in the back called Haiku.
Haiku is dedicated to artists of all types and also serves as a gallery, showcasing local talent. The space hosts small events, poetry readings, shows, workshops and classes. Everything in Redbird Studio is made by them, stationary, silk screened shirts, handmade bags, etc. Paul Evans is a Portland writer, photographer, designer, composer and studio musician. His past jobs include staff composer and accompanist for Arizona State University Dance Department, host of Portland poetry open mic nights, touring musician with Doc Severson, and has performed with local groups like Vagabond Opera, Klezmocracy, Portland Swing, Fractal and many others. He is intent on infecting the world around him with art, via music, performance, starting artist groups, poetry readings, and now, with the Alberta Street Small Press. He likes movies with super heroes and secretly aspires to be one. H.R. McGonigal is a Portland writer, photographer, musician, and artist. She has spent the last year writing in Monterey, California. "Bones as Ballast", the first book release on Alberta St. Small Press, is her first book of poetry.

Fifties & Sixties Pop Culture! Classic Cars, Rock n' Roll, Elvis, Route 66, Drive in Movies, Route 66, Roadside Culture, Kerouac & The Beats, Haight Ashbury, Easy Rider & Vietnam
Pop Culture guru Mike Marino looks at the '60s and beyond through his own kaleidoscope, where rock met revolution. Spewing quips like a psychedelic lawn mower run amok, he drags us, more than likely kicking and screaming, through a past few of us knew and even fewer would admit. This is Truth barred from the history books--- or as Marino would put it, the Red, White and Screwed. Could cause nausea, night sweats and loss of appetite. Void where prohibited. Frank Gutch, Jr.

BBQH BABY BOOMERS HEADQUARTERS MAGAZINE
This is the epitome of a boomer roadie book for the boomer roadie. It's funny, it's nostalgic, it's interesting. Route 66, fins, fuzzy dice, carhops. It's all there. This would be a great gift for the roadhead in your life.
My debut novel - The Cuckoo Parchment and the Dyke - has just launched, and I wondered if you get a moment whether you'd be interested in finding out more on my profile? The novel's about Dada, art, artists and an attempt to instigate revolution through art... Hmmm!
"Later that night, the old man gave me one of the worst beatings to date. And not with his gravelly bare knuckles, neither. Were talkin' with his uber-belt---a two-foot long, inch-thick-wide, leather 'razor' strap that barbers sharpen their tools on. And when he would strike me with it, he would do so with all of his barberly might. I'm not talking about gingerly little bitch slaps here but full-throttle, blunt-force-trauma ass whippings. He fought like he thought that I fought like a man, too! And when the gloves came off & the fury settled like dust, my entire four-foot posterior felt like it'd been doused with gasoline and set ablaze. I could feel the incredible heat surge up my spine until it reached my hair. I could actually smell my own hair burning atop my melting skull. The old man's unforgiving inferno seared through my growing body countless times when I was little—purifying my flesh as it did—while I dangled there by one tiny arm that I wished would just come out of its socket like a rocket...leaving the earth behind."

My literary magazine, The Toronto Quarterly - Issue 2 and 3 are now available at amazon.com. There's some great poetry in each issue along with some cool interviews with up and coming and more established poets. Here is the link:
~Abraham Maslow~ The key question isn't "What fosters creativity?" But it is why in God's name isn't everyone creative? Where was the human potential lost? How was it crippled? I think therefore a good question might be not why do people create? But why do people not create or innovate? We have got to abandon that sense of amazement in the face of creativity, as if it were a miracle if anybody created anything.
