About me: Aldo Leopold Nature Center (ALNC) is a private not-for-profit organization created in 1994 to promote environmental education in the region through the operation of a state-of-the-art nature center in Monona and the establishment of Nature Net, The Environmental Learning Network. A second facility, the Black Earth campus was added in 2005.
Our primary services are naturalist-led programs on the land and in the classroom, family programming, neighborhood outreach, and teacher training. Service populations include nearly 30,000 school children, families and teachers each year. ALNC is solely supported by charitable contributions and program fees.
The Mission of the Center is to teach a love and respect for the land in the spirit of famed Wisconsin conservationist, Aldo Leopold (1887-1948). Our goal is to foster admiration and respect of nature by providing opportunities for children and their families and teachers to connect with nature. We get students outside and engage them in positive and constructive active learning opportunities that capture their interest, stimulate their senses and teach them to appreciate the interconnectedness of all living things. With familiarity with nature establish early, students grow up environmentally conscience - understanding the concept of sustainability and their own impact on the land.
"We shall never achieve harmony with land, any more than we shall achieve absolute justice or liberty for people. In these higher aspirations, the important thing is not to achieve but to strive." -Aldo Leopold

Treat your family to a theatrical performance of A Spoon River Anthology, presented by Creative Outlets of Whitewater, in two acts.
