About Aletheia (On Learning in Wartime Available Now!)

ON LEARNING IN WARTIME

We are living in a time of war. Armed struggles rage on across the world, and many are suffering, longing to see an end to violence. And still, behind the flash of artillery and thunder of brigades, there is a subtle, more fearful war. It is a war of minds; the weapons are words, and the field of battle is the spirit of humanity. The battles are fought under fluorescent lights in lecture halls across the nation. A new call to arms is imminent.

Postmodernism seeks to abolish intellectual limitations, spiritual governance, and moral authority. How astounding it is that some modern writers have been able to turn humanity's only answer to its every existential problem into an oppressive and ruthless "creation of early civilization." Now we are all living in their aftermath. As Malcom Muggeridge once said, "we have educated ourselves into imbecility," meaning that no matter how unreal a belief-system may be, or how shocking a statement is to the human heart—somewhere there will be an ethical or philosophical framework to support it. This is the war in which we are learning.

But though humanity changes, the nature of Truth does not. There are some who would like to believe that we all create our own realities, and though it may work for a while, we are all eventually confronted with the monumental questions of life: Why do I exist? What is my purpose? Why do I feel at least a basic sense of morality? These questions cannot be ignored and, fortunately, they all have an answer: the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

We are all guilty of wrongdoing—every one of us. No matter how much we try to live according to our own merits, our goodness can never outweigh the constant mistakes we all make. The undying love of Christ is for everyone who has ever lived; the plights of all self-proclaimed "saviors" of humanity end where His love begins, and the confusion of the world cannot comprehend it. The love of God is for all of us, and thankfully, millions continue to come to Him. Post-modernity is crumbling; Relativity must ultimately surrender.

OUR PURPOSE: Aletheia plays face-melting rock and roll with the goal of seeing the mid-atlantic region and college campuses effectively connected to Christ in a way that is relevant and genuine. We also serve as the worship band of Aletheia Church.

See AletheiaChurch.com for more info. God Bless.

Hey! I visited Aletheia this summer with a friend while we were working at Highland Retreat as camp counselors. I loved it, and now I've been going all year! I'm a student at EMU, so it's just across town. :)

God bless!
