I'm a California native who grew up in both Southern California and the San Francisco Bay Area. I'm a graduate of U.C. Berkeley, where I majored in theater and minored in everything that Berkeley has a reputation for.
After college I moved to Los Angeles, where I have made an interesting living doing novel adaptations and selling original suspense and horror scripts to various Hollywood studios. I've worked for producers such as Michael Bay, Neal Moritz, David Heyman and Laura Ziskin, and have had one film made so far: an adaptation of German novelist Sabine Deitmer's psychological thriller, COLD KISSES.
Last year I wrote my first novel, THE HARROWING, a ghost story that was nominated for both an Anthony award (mystery) and a Bram Stoker award (horror) for Best First Novel The story is based on real incidents from my high school and college years and grew out of my fascination with the correlation between mental/emotional illness and paranormal events -- something Ive been aware of since I was a child and which was confirmed for me in my years teaching emotionally disturbed and incarcerated teenagers in the Los Angeles court system.
My second supernatural thriller, THE PRICE, set in a spooky Boston hospital, will be published by St. Martin's in February 2008, and I am contracted with St. Martin's for my next two supernatural thrillers..
I practice my Berkeley political activism in union and creative rights issues in the Writers Guild of America, west; I recently finished a term on the WGAw Board of Directors. I'm also the founder of WriterAction.com, a large and unruly cyber-community of over 2000 professional screenwriters - and yes, we are all currently on strike for our fair share of internet profits from our creative work. Next to writing I love dance more than breathing: jazz, ballet, salsa, Lindy, swing - I do it all, every chance I get. Official website: http://alexandrasokoloff.com/

Hi Alexandra* Loved The Harrowing. If I hadn't stopped to speak with my family, I would have finished that sucker in one day and one night. I did finish it in two days and am still thinking about it. Next up . . . The Price. Your work-in-progress sounds fascinating, too. Please keep writing!!!
I just want to let you know that I posted a review of your novel THE HARROWING on my latest blog NEWS AND REVIEWS FOR BOOK LOVERS - ISSUE 33. I hope you like it.

Your new cover is incredible. The trailer is also awesome!!! I see you are now with St. Minotaur. Congratulations!!!! I'm hoping to get picked up soon and St. Minotaur would be a top choice for me. Keep up the great work!
Hop eyou'r having a good New Year thus far. I've broken most of my resolutions. Anyway, I'm looking forward to The Price. It's next month, right? Hell, after The Harrowing, I'm looking forward to your next book more than mine the month after--or the same.
I've stepped a little outside my normal "horror writer" persona this week :-) To celebrate the season, I've created a Holiday Madness page, with links to a free Christmas short fantasy story ("Christmas, The Hard Way"), a rock 'n' roll holiday song I wrote and recorded a few years ago ("Show Me Christmas"), holiday wallpaper for your computer and more. You can hear the song and follow the link from my MySpace page, or just click the banner below. Darkest Holidays to you!
