ALEX BAKICH(a.k.aSpark)
I was born in 1984 in Toronto. I began my obsession with djing in 2000. I was originaly influenced by dj's such as John Digweed, Sasha and Sander Kleinenberg. Then started feeding off of inspiration from dj's such as Steve Lawler, Peace Division, Hernan Cattaneo and Danny Howells.
I'll never forget the first time i heard Steve Lawlers Lights Out 1. It blew my fuckin mind. Those intros man...WOW! It definetly opened my eyes and led me to explore new avenues. Another earlier mix compilation i was always big on was Communicate. After hearing it for the first time, i was never the same again.
I truly am in love with djing and making tunes. It's all i ever do. I spend a minimum of 4 hours a day djing, a minimum of 2 hours a day searching for new music, and i try to spend at least 2 or 3 hours working on productions. Music is my life and i have for a long time now and forever devoted my life to it. It is my true passion and my one desire.
I take djing and making music very seriously, at the same time have a lot of fun with it. I look at djing and production as forms of art. From the start i have always made a stubborn effort to be different and to define my sound as a dj. It's all about being unique...bringing something new to the table. These days there is so much music out there, it allows us dj's and producers to be creative with what sounds we play with.
I've always been a fan of the more deep and hypnotic stuff. If you asked me to describe my sound as a dj, i would say something like...Deep..Techy...quite minimal...very hypnotic...stompin beats. Today i am definitely most inspired by dj's such as JOHN DIGWEED, CHRIS FORTIER, STEVE LAWLER, DANNY HOWELLS, HERNAN CATTANEO and SATOSHI TOMIIE. My favorite mix compilations to date are, John Digweed's "Transitions1,2&3", Chris Fortier's "Balance 007", Steve Lawlers "Wasted"(exclusive mix), and Satoshi Tomiie's Masters pt.9.
In 2005, i earned a sound technology diploma at International Academy of design and Technology. During my time at school i developed a strong hunger for music production. Taking the course helped me develop a solid understanding of music recording, engineering and production, and has definitely made the world of a difference when working in, and knowing my way around the studio.
My main goals in life are to get to express myself as an artist and establish a career as a dj and producer on an international level, to inspire others through my djing and my music the way that others have inspired me, and of course, to RAISE THE BAR!!! and to make a defined impact on and a significant contribution to the future of the electronic music scene.
THE PASSION THAT I HAVE FOR MUSIC IS INSANE!!!! There is no doubt in my mind that i will be djing and making music until the day that i can no longer physically make it happen.
