"A great CD, thanks very much. The sound is particularly nice with a lush feel to it. The female singer is excellent and your own playing is very authentic. Well Done." Steve Evans - Beltona Resophonic Guitars
“Really enjoyed your excellent CD Alex” Herb Remington (Bob Wills Texas Playboys)
“Wonderful C.D, fine steel work - didn't know that you were so accomplished with electric lap steel. Nice to hear female vocals too.” Don Young – President/C.E.O, National Resophonic Guitars.
“Loving it, your best to date. The vocals are spectacular and the overall sound, especially your steel, are very cool.” Kerryn Tolhurst - Musician/Producer
“Alex, just a short note to say how much I have enjoyed the album - it is fantastic.
I admire you as a purist and the outcome with this record is very impressive and enjoyable.” Rob Walker - National Marketing Manager, Allan’s Music
“Alex did an excellent job by putting this CD together with his fine musicians. It shows that Hawaiian music is in good hands.” Gerrit A. Venema - Secretary of the Dutch Foundation for Hawaiian Music - The Netherlands.
“What a great choice of material ...excellent playing of course too, I’m enjoying all of it a lot. Delighted in particular to hear Benny’s “Waikiki Blues“ and Sol’s “Radio Blues” ...two of my absolute favourites.” Les Cook - Grass Skirt Records (www.GrassSkirt.co.uk)
“Very nice job Alex” Dirk P Vogel - Chairman of the Aloha International Steel Guitar Club
Burns – a Glaswegian who adopted Australia in 1973 – released his acclaimed solo album, Twilight Blues, in 1999. We loved to play it in the car on beach holidays. Burns has invited many friends, including jazz players, on his second island voyage, one that ventures into blues and latin.
This rich feast harks back to Sol Hoopii, Chas E. King and King Benny Nawahi – names redolent of lazy, swinging days in some tropical island paradise.
Burns plays electric steel on 10 tracks and acoustic national guitar on four, along with rhythm guitar. Ukelelist Sue Arnold recalls the falsetto and vocal leaps of Hawaii’s songbird, Lena Machado. On inventive Arpeggio Spice, jazz guitarist Jen Hawley evokes pristine waters and dazzling sand.
If Akaka Falls is too dreamy, jazzy Hula Blues will set toes tapping, there’s lush Latin on Santa Lucia (Kerryn Tolhurst joins Burns on steel guitar) and sweeping arcs of harmony in Sand. Play it loud.

"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
Aloha Alex! Hope everything is well. I am thinking of you, trying to finish my own CD with the "Hula serenaders" bur you know how much it takes time... And money! Aloha pumehana from Pascal
