FUSION RADIO INTERVIEW PT.1 FUSION RADIO INTERVIEW PT.2 Check me out on the DJ Gunz Mixtape
Born in Toronto, singer/songwriter Alexis was exposed to a diverse range of musical genres at an early age. Listening to calypso, reggae, R & B, rock, jazz, country and everything in between, Alexis absorbed the music around her, courtesy of her fathers record collection.
She credits Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Micheal Jackson, Etta James, Christina Aguilera top amongst her list of artistic influences. “Growing up, these singers all influenced me as an artist, impacting my writing, my style and my sound.” Drawing from these influences and crafting her music, Alexis has created her own unique hybrid, a provocative mixture of both strength and vulnerability clearly seen through her vocals and lyrics.
As a young child, Alexis’s performing career began by secretly singing to herself in her bedroom closet. Eventually getting over her shyness, Alexis took her talent and drive for performing to the stage of various local talent shows. In 2000, as her music continued to evolve, Alexis joined Poiz-n-us Flame, a local area hip hop group. Making her way up the music industry ladder, Alexis built a solid library of songs she wrote herself, and is currently in the studio recording her self-titled debut album.
Through her lyrics Alexis has found her true voice. Not content to simply perform, Alexis approaches songwriting with the dedication of any successful artist. A natural with words, she mulls over the messages she wants to convey while evoking the emotions she wants people to feel when they listen to her music.
“I don’t have any one way of writing a song. I go with the flow, and with what I ‘m feeling at the time. Inspiration has a lot to do with it, and writing a song can take me anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple of days.
Alexis recently scored a record deal with Kassiopia Entertainment and distribution a deal with Asian record label Red Mountain Black for her anthem single Go Sista, an empowering track with unapologetic vocals and powerful beats.
