"The New Patriotism" is the sequel to Alex Jarvis' "Sixes + Sevens" solo debut. A kitchen table experiment saluting the zeitgeist of Howard's Australia and Industrial Relations reform, The New Patriotism was recorded at Jarvis' home in an old knitting factory in Collingwood and mixed by Lindsay Gravina at Birdland Studios.
The album features:
Alex Jarvis, Jacob Pearce (Because Of Ghosts - drums), Gareth Skinner (Disaster Plan, Bzark - cello), Andy Papadopoulos (Registered Nurse, Dollop - electric bass and acoustic guitar), plus James Dixon (Amplifier Machine, Supagroop), Nick Murphy (Anyones, Shylo), Nick Craft (Zillions), Ben Mason (Smallgoods), Julian Devery (Chefs de Mission) and Chris Patterson (The Incredible Chris Patterson Band), all on vocals.
Alex Jarvis currently plays in Amplifier Machine, Registered Nurse and Black Cab, and played in Fast Piss Blues Band when they were around. Jarvis started playing solo in early 2000 after his previous band, Automatic, had gone to that big old after-party in the sky. He has guested on recordings by Chris Smith, Because of Ghosts, Zen Paradox and Princess One Point Five, and plays in The Sensational Alex Jarvis Band with Richard Andrew, Mark Nelson, Chris Smith and James Dixon.
In a throwback to the pre-industrialised music industry, The New Patriotism is a vinyl-only release. It is on sale at gigs only or from Jarvis' Myspace page, priced at 5% of the purchaser's average weekly income. It was structured this way so as to make it less affordable for rich people.
Last October, Hotel Wrecking City Traders got word of their mates Electric Jellyfish's tragedy whilst on tour in the US. That night they dedicated their set at the East Brunswick Club to the band for their loss. The show was committed to film by the prople at Two Tap TV and is now being released on DVD.
There will be a public screening of the film TOMORROW NIGHT (12/6/08):
Red Carpet Night Presents: Hotel Wrecking City Traders - Live At The EBC Thursday, June 12 - Kent St Bar (201 Smith St, Collingwood) $2 Mountain Goat Pots from 7 pm Movie kicks off at 8 pm
