The bands I play with have a wide range of characters. I'm also always looking to jam with or add more players to the pool.
Influences
I have had many influences from jazz to polkas, ethnic folk music from around the world to pop, classical, rock, country and just about anything in between... So my latest listening lists... ok I'm actually on my ipod shuffling
The latest album by The Red Elvises- "Drinking with Jesus" is really rocking my world; I downloaded 2 classics by Buck Owens (Act Naturally and Tiger...)-- clean, good hooks; Chris Botti's Italia album might possibly be one of the best examples pure, gorgeous trumpet tone;Eddie Rodick's 60 years of Cleveland Style Polkas-- this is just insane-- his use of Bi-Tonality at the end of Quick Stop Polka is complete genius; While on my polka thing-- Frankie Yankovic's 70 Years of Hits-- the first Polka Grammy winner-- is jus a classic record-- what seemed like it would be just a throw away album of hits rehashed is a total realized album-- Joey Miskulin made it fresh one more time-- perfection, even with some coughs on vocals...
I have been a lifelong musician- first performing in public at age 6 with my 2 sisters as the Meixner Kinder, accompanied by my father's band. From these early performing experiences, I have gone onto lead a life immersed in music. I have performed and recorded with a multitude of artists from all around the world and teach music students ranging in age from 6 to 76.
I perform on trumpet, piano accordion, diatonic button accordion, keyboards, bass and drums- in addition to other horns and the occasional vocal (or yodel). I currently lead The Alex Meixner Band and Jazz Visions as well as colloborate with Bubba Hernandez in our 2007 Grammy nominated Polka Freak Out project. Additionally, I enjoy collaborating with artists in many musical genres for studio projects and live gigs.

It seems I'm always behind here and "Stay All Night," the latest recording by Alex Meixner, sat on my mail pile for a couple of days before I ran through the entire 22 tracks. However, before my first listen, it was the thumbnail photos of Alex that caught my attention. This pictorial collection of Alex on stage, in a full variety of musical emotions, perfectly reflects the audio aspects of this collection.
Like the photos, the audio collection featured is a grouping Meixner covering a range of tunes that make this a must for all fans.
Hi Alex! Your calender only goes up to the 27th of October. I can only assume that you'll be here in New Braunfels for our Wurstfest 10/30 - 11/08.... As far as I'm concerned it should be called the "ALEXFEST"!!! Here's a Texas-style quote for ya:
