Ready. Set. A statement. A mission.
These two words embody the mindset of Alex Ray & the Last Place. With their inviting blend of rock, pop, soul and acoustic, the band has just released Ready, Set..., five optimistic songs ready for mainstream success.
The band members—Alex Ray (vocals, guitar), Adam Nergenah (guitar, vocals), Austin Ray (drums) and Dave Ruvolo (bass)—view Ready, Set... as the proper culmination of three years of collaboration. Together, the four function as one beast with four hearts, a complete creation; synergistically, the sound is fuller, the ideas richer.
But let's take a step back; let's look at where the songs come from. Singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist/namesake Alex Ray stands above the fray with his lyrics and melodies. "I love to tell stories, and I strive to do that with my music," he says of his words, both uplifting and conversational in tone. "I want people to hear their stories in my songs."
Behind that goal is a serious student of the craft of songwriting. "Songwriting is a beautiful and challenging art form," says Alex. "It is something I pursue because of my love for it."
That passion comes through in the songs of AR&TLP, whether recorded to disc or delivered live. It's what draws audiences to the band, leading to growing crowds at each successive show. It's also what keeps Alex Ray & the Last Place going.
"Our goal is to always, always, always better ourselves as writers, singers and musicians," Alex asserts. "We see that as a lifelong journey."
