Italian-born instrumental guitarist Alessandro ("Alex") Rosselli cites Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, Allan Holdsworth, and Joe Satriani as influences. While there are certainly characteristics of these legends' styles in Rosselli's playing, his music greatly expands upon these elements to create a style uniquely his own. His music often employs a very clean, melodic guitar sound, sometimes punctuated with a distorted lead guitar track. Rosselli's recording career has spanned five albums, each showing a range of musical styles and nuances. He recorded his first album in 2001, titled Impressions, and followed it up a year later with Walking Through the Gates. In 2003, Rosselli released Moonlight which showed his more introspective side, with songs like Moonlight and Bells and Trains, but still rocked out on songs like Like a Shooting Star. His guitar technique and musicianship evolved considerably by the time he released Arlekkino in 2004 and the album is a finely-textured collection of songs. His most recent release, the 2005 album My Red Guitar, marks a return to a more straightforward recording approach.

About Alex Rosselli - 2012:

HEAR AND BUY MY CDs ON CDBABY

Rome, Italy-July 2, 2007

Alessandro “Alex” Rosselli was born in Bressanone on the Austrian borders. His interest in music began later in life, not like your typical musician that picks up their first guitar at 4 years old. When Alex was 20 years old, a Greatest Hits presentation of Carlos Santana on TV captured his imagination and things began to take shape. In 1989, a friend handed him an old acoustic guitar and he reluctantly accepted the gift unknowing at the time how it would transform his life. His first attempts at playing songs like the rock classic “Voodoo Chile” pushed him to reach a level of perfection that took many hours of practice and patience. In the period from 1990-2000 there many different musical experiences with rock, metal, pop, progressive rock, entertainment (pop, rock, Italian folk, Latin, Bossa Nova) bands. This time proved to be invaluable as it give the fledgling artists and opportunity to experiment and find what direction he wanted to go in when the time was right to record. From 2000-2001 Alex took lessons from Charlie Banacos. Charlie is the originator of the now classic exercises on such tunes as “Autumn Leaves,” ”Giant Steps,” “Anthropology” and major and minor blues.

The series of recordings from Rosselli (2001-2005) cover many styles of six-string wizardry, inspired by the likes of Hendrix. Impressions, Walking Through The Gates, Moonlight, Arlekkino, and My Red Guitar can be sampled at CD Baby.

Alex Rosselli will continue to evolve as an artist and technician of his chosen instrument. Surely international acclaim is right around the corner as more listeners tune into to his hypnotic six-string instrumental music.

Instrumental-Rock-Jazz-Fusion

Alessandro “Alex” Rosselli is a versatile guitar player from Italy. Fans of instrumental rock will enjoy all of his current recordings. It so happens I have a proclivity for this kind of music so I seek it out. Finding an artist with 5 albums worth of material, and all of it instrumental, for this listner was like being a kid in a (ear) candy store. I was poking around CD Baby one afternoon and started sampling this man’s music and was intrigued by what he had to offer.

Rosselli started with Impressions in 2001, and if you are wondering why it is not available on CD Baby its because the album is currently undergoing a remastering and will be re-released. All four of the other titles My Red Guitar, Arlekkino, Moonlight, and Walking Through the Gates, are currently available.

This group of recordings is a good example of all the different moods, tones, atmospheres, and varying compositions that can be created and executed in the realm of the electric six-string. Rosselli takes the nod from Hendrix and all the greats in wide array of genres, including rock, jazz, and fusion. At times he flat out rocks and goes off on a run then decides to drop it down a few notches and play less aggressively allowing the listener to hear the more tasteful and directed side of his playing.

Rosselli does his share of experimentation during the course of five CDs, seeing what kind of sounds he can coax from his axe. For example, in regards to the 2004 release Arlekkino, he states “I wanted to explore different sounds, using more midi-guitar as usual, to create sound effects such as ambient keyboard or melodic solos.” Rosselli was not afraid to use today’s technologies to help create the sounds he was searching for on his albums.

There is a lot to take in within these five CDs and I think this artist has a lot potential to take things to another level if he stays on this path. I admire him for taking the initiative and putting all this work out there with nothing else to back him but his six-string and some inventiveness in the studio, it is just the man and his guitar and that is as simplistic as it gets. I think for those particular reasons I could really appreciate the things Rosselli is trying to accomplish.

Alex Rosselli - 2012: On this CD, I go back many, many years to early rock odysseys... groups like YES... strong, STRONG guitar fantasy tales from Alex that will take you on a trip like you've never been ... His playing isn't (quite) as psychedelically oriented as those old groups... more on a 21st Century level, where he actually puts you "in touch" with all those things that have been bubbling down in your cauldron. It's pure guitar, interpreting sounds around you, turning lifetime experiences into guitar wall-of-sound artistry that will astound your ears. I'd advise against trying to listen to this all at one sitting... take the first 3 cuts (that's 20 minutes worth), then go off & absorb them over a mug of cappuccino... then come back for the next round. After you've absorbed it all, it's time to put it in yer' car player & RAWK on DOW-un thee road! I'm highly impressed, as I was when I first caught Mr. Rosselli on the web & requested this CD for review. This CD is an experience... not just "another rock guitar album, & it gets a HIGHLY RECOMMENDED from these adventurous ears! Alex Rosselli - 2012

Alex Rosselli has reached another level of creativity and conceptual artistry on his new release 2012. After listening to this interesting and entertaining recording of instrumental rock, fusion, and progressive amalgamations, it seems all of the albums prior to this were developmental, leading to the current creation and metamorphosis of this incredibly talented artist. In discussion with Alex, I discovered that he went through a very deep and insightful thought process while recording this album. He wanted to produce a concept album and the first recordings started in late 2006 and then ended in July 2007. Alex read many things about the year 2012 including information about the Mayan Calendar, time acceleration, personal and planetary changes, DNA upgrades, UFOs, shift to 4th and 5th dimension, the Ascension, and the synchronization of earth with the universe. Therefore, after exploring all of this he took his own fantasy and decided to create recordings with these ideas, philosophies, and future projections in mind to inspire a concept album. You can read more about the story on his website or at the CD Baby page for this CD. As only the listener not the creator- it can be difficult to really “hear” and comprehend a completely instrumental album, match the titles with the music, and envision what the artist is seeing as the tracks play. Only the architect of the story has the quintessential lifeline to their music. It is then up to listener to recreate their own story, however it does help quite a bit if you have an idea of the entire concept and reasoning to the unfolding of the music before you. It also takes the right frame of mind and perhaps several listens before you get it. As you listen to tracks, the realization of how connected they all are strikes you as prolific and it makes total sense, thus giving you each individual song rolled into one complete track to take in all at once. I heard familiar influences, such as Hendrix, once again at different points throughout, although this was not a key factor in the presentation or overall sound of the project. Alex spends a lot of time experimenting with sounds utilizing a MIDI guitar with Yamaha MU100 tone generator (strings, effects, bass, and sitar) and the Electro Harmonix Micro Synthesizer, for that cool synth phase shifting effect you will hear often. Alex Rosselli is an emerging artist, and it is happening at the speed of light now with the release of 2012. This man has gone from impressive to brilliant in every way with this release. © MuzikReviews.com Keith “MuzikMan” Hannaleck-January 22, 2008

                                         IERI

Tornano nella mia mente
immagini vive ed improponibili
del mio ieri
volato come un lampo
mi sembra di sentire
l'odore un poco aspro
di terra smossa
l'alitare del vento
tra i canneti
nascondevi
le gambe nude
e il tuo viso arrossiva
alla lieve carezza della mano
al dolce tremolar delle mie dita
oggi tutto è ricordo
e non c'è più
l'ombra del tiglio
a ricordare al gelso
la nostra storia
diventata favola.
