Alex, Alexandra and sometimes Sasha, depending on the mood.
Influences
Everything! I can't say that I have any special influences but I do know that I have been influenced along the way. There are a couple artists that I have been taken with recently; Patricia Piccinini and a group that formed the Minnesota Association of Rouge Taxidermists (MART).
Locally, I am a big fan of Martin Ross (sometimes local, sometimes not), Julie Decker, Duke Russel (gotta love that guy), Don Mohr, Marcello Munoz (former owner of the Battery Gallery), Michael Conti, and Lisa and Stephen Gray. If you get the chance, check them out.
This is a Visual Art Space.
A bit about me: I live in Alaska where I was raised. I have been creating random things my entire life and have only come into my own spot several years ago. I have participated in over 30 shows both within AK and outside and received numerous awards. I am contemplating graduate school but being a "starving artist" I can't afford the application fees. One day. I recently received a project grant from the nice folks over at the Rasmunson Foundation with helps a bit with the "starving" part.
A bit about my work: I enjoy combining different mediums, objects and artifacts together to create my work, very Frankenstein I've been told. The end result is sometimes eerie or sometimes cute, depending on your outlook.
Since I was exiled from the sculpture studio, I have been forced to work in my crappy one bedroom apartment. I have managed to fit a work bench, table, band saw, belt sander and a variety of other useful tools into my dining room (aka ghetto studio). Since I no longer have access to a foundry I have created a casting area in my kitchen (don't tell my landlord). I now cast only pewter (super expensive) because of it's low melting temperature. All of the metal works were created (in part) using the lost wax casting process. If you are wondering what that is about, look it up you're on the computer. I am usually striving to push myself causing my work to change and grow as I do.
The shows that are posted actually have varying dates, look them up to figure out when the openings are and how long the show runs for.
I actually dislike talking about my artwork and the process and all that jazz so just check out the pictures or maybe come to a show.
Thanks for checking out my page.
Hey there lady! So I work in Fremont in Seattle, and guess who should pop into my giftshop? Yer mom! Of course I recognize her from all the times she has been in One People. You should move your ass down here! Tell your mom to evict the guy living in that place ya'll have in Capitol Hill and move the fuck in! Would be rad to have another Alaskan down here! Hope things are good for you as they are for me. Werd! xoxoaish
Just wanted to stop by and say I love your work. I've seen it a couple of times around Anchorage. Here is a unhappy story to make your day bright...we all need a little catharsis in our lives.
Cerdine cuts off her breasts
Cerdine cuts off her breasts Hand embroidered cotton
At a certain time in a certain kingdom a young woman named Cerdine who was the most beautiful woman in the kingdom, gets raped by her father three times and has three sons of their union. She is then blamed by the village priests for seducing her father, and is kicked out of her village. As you can imagine she gets mad, not because of being raped or for the accusations of seduction, but because her father will not acknowledge her children as legitimate heirs. Well any ways she takes of the kingdom and at the end the horny old bastard is going to try and rape her again. She wipes out her knife and instead of stabbing him, cuts off her breasts. She throws her breasts at him saying, “If you like the taste of my flesh so much eat these!" Then she turns into the son and him the moon. The End. (Celtic Folklore)-Retold by Annie Aube
Greetings to one of my fave Anchorage artists: I think you would like Monique Motil (check her out at www.moniquemotil.com/sartcre.html). Hope all is well. -Hedy
