Alex Steele is the resident house pianist at the Everyman Late Night Jazz Club, the Late Night Club of the Cheltenham International Jazz Festival, and regular pianist at the Subtone and Cheltenham Film Studios Jazz Club. A versatile and dynamic musician, he is well respected in national and international jazz circles, bringing together a diverse range of musicians alongside some of the best international names on the modern jazz scene. Alex has been a featured artist on BBC Radio 3, with appearances on Jazz Line Up, and a live broadcast from the Cheltenham International Jazz Festival.
His own sound is unique, bringing energy, virtuosity and passion for the delight of many jazz enthusiasts. Alex’s influences are broad, including the inspirational harmonic intensity of Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett, the melodic eminence of Michel Petrucciani, the rhythmic intensity of Chick Corea and Danilo Perez, and the subtle touch and passion of Brad Mehldau.

Alex is currently widely involved in performance, with forthcoming gigs including trio, quartet and solo performances. He is also involved in an innovative project called ‘improwise’, bringing jazz to a new audience through business management seminars. These seminars are exploring the links between jazz performance and the personal and organisational skills of change management, innovation, creativity, team work, leadership and improvisation.
