While growing up in Eastern Europe, Alex was exposed early to the sounds of the 80’s from influences like Modern Talking, Bad Boy Blue, Fancy, and Blue System. During that period he started his collection of music on cassette tapes (which was the format at that time).

Then in the early 90’s when he moved with his family to US, most of the tapes were lost and it was tough to find new dance music because radio waves in US were dominated by the disco sounds of the 70’s & early 80’s and freestyle sounds of 90’s. To stay up to date with the latest European dance trends, he kept in touch with the Eastern European community living here in US (Brooklyn, NYC). That’s how he was able to recover his lost tape sounds and updated it to the CD format.

Around that same time period, some of the European dance music started to appear on the radio, like hits from Snap!, Captain Hollywood, Culture Beat, etc. Later on when Twister went on to University, he picked up more dance music from one of his best friends “Z” who had a massive collection of all the freshest dance sounds. Those were golden years of Eurodance with classic releases from DJ Bobo, Masterboy, Activate, E-Rotic, Real McCoy, Ace of Base, Dr Alban, and others.

He also became more interested in the production teams behind these music projects. There were so many different project names released every week that knowing the production team behind it was the only way to follow your favorite sound. The whole process of music creation was a big mystery and something that Alex was always curious about. During that time, most of the music was produced in big studios with hardware synthesizers and drums machines and some very early software sequencers. This was out of reach for anybody who just wanted to try it out or to get started. With time passing by and computers becoming more powerful, music production became more affordable and easier to get into.

After trying a few simple loop-based programs and running out of all the supplied samples, Alex Twister realized that he needed something better and more flexible to express his creativity and to fulfill his dream of making his own dance music. Everything did change though when he discovered the early version of FL Studio, known at that time as Fruity Loops. He made a lot of short amateur tunes without any knowledge of proper techniques or even using any sound processing effects. Thanks to Internet, there were plenty of resources to read and websites and forums to post his early productions to get a feedback.

The big change came in 2004 when Alex Twister contacted Doug Laurent, a legendary producer and remixer from Frankfurt, Germany. With his valuable feedback and challenges for new remixes, Alex’s production skills improved dramatically. Twister created his own unique style using only the basic setup of a laptop with a software sequencer, samples and VST (virtual instruments and effects) and studio headphones. He tried some popular hardware synths, but found this all-in-one virtual studio setup to be his ultimate music production solution. At the end, people should judge you by your final results, and not the tools you used to get there!

One of Alex’s remixes (Captain Hollywood “More and more”) was featured on CAPP Records MIDEM ‘04 sampler and got a lot of positive feedback. More remix work followed, including Snap! ”Rhythm is a dancer 2005“. This production made its way to Eastern European market and got a lot of radio airplay on some of the Russian music stations, even making it to the top 10. The first official CD release was his dreamdance mix for the charity project of United AllStars ”Hope“ to support victims of 2005 South East Asia tsunami.

As a challenge, Twister decided to expand his library of remix material and update it with a style of benassi-tekhouse. This led to a new project-collaboration with Doug Laurent, and that is how De Lorean ”Push it“ was born. This track became an overnight success and got signed with one of the biggest US dance labels, ROBBINS Ent (home of Cascada, DHT, DJ Sammy, Ian van Dahl, and Lasgo). After that, all of his productions in a style of eurodance, trance, techno, and hands’up were released under “twister hard club” name, while all the house, tekhouse, and electro-house mixes were done under “de lorean” name.

Following year was very busy with over 30 productions released on CAPP Records, Twister’s home base record label. This record label, where he is signed, becoming a very important Record Label in a Worldwide dance community. A number of these productions were featured on various albums and compilations and made it to the top of iTunes charts.

Recently, Alex Twister was given an opportunity to produce all the remixes for the DJ Bobo latest single. Success of this single release got an attention from legendary Bad Boys Blue and S.E.X. Appeal (ex E-Rotic) projects who requested Alex Twister remixes for their upcoming releases. That was an amazing experience to work on remixes for the artists that Alex used to admire and listen to 10 years ago, and in case of BBB – 20 years ago.

Looking ahead, expect more great remixes and productions from Alex Twister!!! Even so music production is not his full time job (being a husband, a father, and an opto-electronic engineer is ), he still does it with passion and energy to bring the Best Dance Music to his fans Around the World!!!
