The day that Algernon's Mouse came together will mar the historical landscape of pop music with infamous hues for years to come. With influences spanning various genres and sub genres it is hard to sum the boys up into one specific classification. In fact with such ardent individuals making up their membership, they shun classification altogether. The music speaks for itself, but in order to give some insight into what they are all about, they have been likened to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers by Drum Media, and have been said to posses " One hell of a frontman" in the same publication. They have played gigs with bands as far reaching as the funktafied King Farook, and seminal Sydney punk-rockers Bagster, to emerging acts like hardcore kids Thy Art is Murder, and blues troubadours The Decades. They have rocked venues from Sydney to Wollongong, and back to Balmain, and have filled some of Sydney's most popular stops on the long road to industry recognition including: The Annandale, Spectrum, Ruby Rabbit, The Gaelic Club and The Heritage.
In auditory terms, they sound as if someone took an old recording of Sting and smashed it in the face with Jeff Buckley's microphone, then got Muddy Waters and injected his veins with some of the shit John Fruiscante was taking, asking Flea to come along for the ride but only after they added another 15 kilos of energy to his aura and about 1000 tonnes more swagger to his step, then birthed the love child of Questlove and Travis Barker and put him behind the kit, and finally they painted the Notorius BIG white, and made him listen to Buck 65 non-stop for 3 years straight. Picture that and you're getting closer. Come to a gig and you might find out what its all about.
Their debut EP tentatively titled You be Uber Super Trooper, will be released this coming summer, with various parties and promotional events set to follow. Stay tuned for gig listings, and get in on the ground floor before these 5 Sydneysiders split the world's pants at their seams.
