Alice Martineau, a wonderfully talented British pop singer/songwriter, born, educated and grew up in London. Alice draws upon her personal experience for inspiration in her songwriting.
Alice was born with Cystic Fibrosis and needed a heart lung and liver transplant, but she never let her illness rule her life, if Alice wanted to go out dancing all night she did, Alice wanted to be a model and she became one. But the real dream that Alice wanted to fulfil was to record an album and get a record deal.
Before being signed up by Sony, Alice performed at various places in London. She had also appeared on TV as an extra in various music videos, and has appeared on several morning TV shows. Alice also had done an advert for MTV. In early July she appeared on a documentary for Channel 4, Natural Born talent, which her singing "Inside Of You" with a brief interview afterwards. There has also been an hour long documentary made called "The nine lives of Alice Martineau" that has been shown a number of times on BBC3 and once on BBC2.
The album "Daydreams" was written over a period of about 3 years and Alice had already written a number of songs before signing up with Sony. Some of the songs like "Sunlight Song" were written in about half an hour, while others took as long as about a month, such as "Three Colours Blind". Like most people, Alice's favourite song on the album was "Inside Of You".
After Alice signed up with Sony, she released her first single "If I Fall" and her first album "Daydreams". To follow it up her second single "The Right Time" was planned for release, but due to Alice's health deteriorating, its release was pushed further and further back.
Sadly, Alice passed away on the morning of Thursday, 6th March 2003. She was 30 years old.
The release of "The Right Time" was then cancelled and replaced with "Inside Of You". But sadly, the single never made it to release and nothing such has been released since. Plans are now in motion though to get Alice's music out there and hopefully spread her beautiful music as far and wide as possible. Keep your eyes open for any news!
It touches me deeply to hear your voice. You remind me of French singer Grégory Lemarchal, who also died of Cystic Fibrosis last year at the age of 24. Just like you, he was preparing his second album but it was never released, as Gregory passed away as he was waiting for a lung transplant. Just like you, he never let Cystic Fibrosis lead his life. People like you are just angels.. Two more stars are in the sky now, watching over us. Hope you've met Greg, that's a great guy; if not, just go and talk to him and say hi from me.. And keep singing together.
It's not that often that someone comes along and creates musical moments that touch people so deeply. You simply gave a little of yourself in everything you wrote and delivered them in a perfectly humble way. Your spirit will always live in the songs you left behind and you will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Alice.
To help promote the Bon Giovi / Bryan Adams Experience gig, aimed at raising the profile of Cystic Fibrosis and funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, can you include me in your list of ‘Top Friends’ for a while,
We may have realized the miracle of organ donation in our own family but our fight for others to realize this gift is far from over. In order to further raise awareness for Organ and Tissue Donation, I pray you will take the time to visit http://www. angelcove. us and show your support to all of those that have realized the miracle, are still waiting for their miracle, and those that were the miracle!
