As a child, she loved nothing more than books, poetry and especially music, feeling that they held the keys to a world of endless possibilities, more real and vivid than the one she actually lived in. Alice grew up listening to Cat Stevens, The Beatles and Aretha Franklin. She quickly fell in love with the words of their songs, with the way they sounded. Their vibrancy, their immediacy, their simplicity. There are things that can only be intimately expressed in another language. English now became her chosen vehicle, to give voice to those things that were close to her heart. After studying acting for two years at Michael Howard Studios in New York, and performing in several theatrical productions, she returned to Paris. There she went on to study at ATLA, a school focusing on contemporary music, where she formed a rock band with some of her schoolmates. In 2009, while finishing a Masters degree in Sociology at The Sorbonne, she started writing and composing for herself. Being an insomniac, or rather a person who loves staying awake at night, she drew inspiration from artists whose music kept her company in the wee hours where everything else goes silent. She became enamored of songwriters of all kinds of genres who weren’t afraid to let silence speak, to let the inside out, and the outside in: Antony and the Johnsons, Leonard Cohen, Radiohead, Donny Hathaway, Björk, Jeff Buckley, Tori Amos, Tom Waits, Portishead, Otis Redding… This eclectic group of artists helped her map what would become the musical landscape of her songs. In 2010, Alice went to the studio with the musician and musical arranger Mathias Desmier to record 4 of her songs: “The Garden”, “Morning Song”, “The Weather In Your Head” and “Don’t Be Sorry”. Together they created a haunting and dream-like atmosphere for the songs that speak of love and longing, of skin and scars, of the weather and the gardens in everybody’s heads… Alice is now excitedly making plans to start performing her songs onstage, and to share her new musical world of endless possibilities, making them real and vivid to an audience.
