Montreal born Alice Newton (born Alice Russell January 10th 1985) grew up on the sunny beaches of Sydney, Australia. Her love affair with music began at age 8 with her piano, but she soon began exploring a world of songwriting and taught herself acoustic guitar at age 14. By the age of 16 Alice began playing in cafes and coffee shops in nearby beach town of Manly, developing a sweet, folk style and aspiring to be like her idols Jewel, Tracy Chapman and Lisa Loeb (to name a couple). A few years on and Alice spent some time recording a few tracks in a small studio in Toronto, courtesy of BMG Canada (now Sony/BMG) This experience was truly amazing but the songs were put aside soon to be forgotten. A short time later Alice ventured into a friend's studio/lounge room in Sydney, Australia to record her very first 5 track demo EP entitled "Dreaming Of". Many cherished moments were made writing and recording these tracks, including recording one song from inside a linen closet. Lots more gigs followed, at various pubs, hotels and cafes in Sydney.
Many years later and Alice now resides in Whistler, BC Canada with her husband and dog. A few more recordings are under her belt but she is currently enjoying a few modest gigs around town with the snow capped mountain tops as her backdrop. She is listening to and loving artists such as Lenka, Feist, Cat Power, Missy Higgins, Josh Pyke, William Fitzsimmons, Regina Spektor, Meiko and Brooke Fraser. Her sound remains a sweet blend of folk and pop, always with a touch of that coffee shop soul.
