People dedicate their lives to various things. Alicia Tait has dedicated hers to music.
That dedication has seen her move from her home town of Vancouver, to Alberta, a hot bed of live music.
But her dedication also goes beyond performing. When she's struck with an idea for a song that she knows is worth keeping, and she's in a hurry, she'll call her cell phone and wait for the voice mail to kick in. Later, she takes that sound bite and creates a song.
Inspiration for songwriting hits Tait unexpectedly. "I find that I write at really odd times," she confesses. It's not unusual for her to wake up at 4 a.m. humming a new tune.
But she also collaborates. On her forthcoming album; Smoke and Mirrors, she's co-written 3 songs and does a song written by Travis Howard (Miranda Lambert) and a song written by Keith Urban. "The rest is all written by me," she says. She's already released a demo version of Give me a Reason from the album to her website as a teaser.
Sultry pops up often in discussions about her singing, she says. Her serene stage presence belies a powerful voice, accompanied by gifted songwriting.
In addition to recording her own material and writing for other artists, several independent movies and television shows have featured her songs.
Alicia's new album "Smoke and Mirrors" is presently in pre-production and is scheduled for release in 2008. The album will be produced by Chad Melchert and Mark Puffer (Adam Gregory, Gord Bamford, and Duane Steele).
Alicia plays at many Festivals and Venues across Western Canada and is looking forward to doing more of stripped down and intimate show once her new album is released.
