Deliberately abrasive and bitingly sardonic, A Life Without emerged in the Minneapolis independent underground in late 2003. A post-hardcore noise rock band, they turned out a series of demos filled with eviscerating, guitar-driven pseudo-hardcore rock n roll noise, all of which received positive reviews in numerous online and print music publications, including Chord Magazine, Pit Magazine and Lambgoat Media. Take the lyrical wit of Clutchs Neil Fallon, the intensity of the now defunct Kid Gorgeous, the musicianship of Black Label Society, throw in some face-rocking breakdowns, and you can start to get a sense of what A Life Without is all about.
A Life Without was originally formed by Brent Hedtke (guitar), Omar Alkatout (vocals), and Ted Eastman (bass), following the fallout of their previous bands. After recruiting guitarist Jeremy Beckman and drummer Matt Varner the band recorded a four-song EP entitled, Thank You Minneapolis, Good Night and embarked on numerous tours throughout the U.S., sharing the stage with the likes of Misery Signals, 3 Inches of Blood, Martyr A.D. and Remembering Never. The band has since cultivated a rising cult following based on their distinctively frenzied music and their reckless, occasionally violent and often offensive live performances. Former Club Dread owner, Dan Woolhaus, once told the band The only other band I could see causing more damage than you guys is Great White.
With the release of their latest effort, Buckle the Fuck Up A Life Without effectively demonstrates their maturity through meticulously crafted arrangements, powerful dynamics and face-melting riffs, elevating their songwriting to new heights of rock n roll intensity and head banging mayhem. Having set their sights on taking their brand of musical belligerence to a broader audience, A Life Without shows no sign of slowing down or easing up. With every song the perfect soundtrack to a Monday night bar brawl or a Friday night street fight, no bar is safe and no bottle is left unopened when these Minneapolis hooligans are on the loose.
