Bio
Alighieri is an American death metal band from Tracy, California. Formed in 2006, the band has released three EP's in addition to various demos and promotional material. Alighieri's initial lineup consisted of Brandon Michael (2006-present), Joseph Flores (2006-present), and Stephen Karney (2006-2007). The band first began as a side project following the departure of Brandon and Joseph from the local metalcore outfit Regrets Of A Tiffany Gun (a band which they co-founded with Stephen a year earlier). Alighieri's first demo track, "Atlas Mourned" was recorded and released in December of 2006. The track was well-received and garnered the band both local and international interest via their Myspace page. The band's first performance as Alighieri took place on March 8, 2008 in their hometown of Tracy, CA alongside A Legion Of Thieves, Athens, and Fallujah. The show also served as the release party for their debut EP, Serving The Recession. The band continued to release music, tour, and undergo several lineup changes until solidifying the lineup in 2012 with the addition of former The Burden We Bear drummer Cohen DeYoung. Alighieri's latest effort, The Malignant Pulse, has quickly become their most popular release to date, earning the band high sales performance, rave reviews, diverse fans, and better tour opportunities. Brandon, the band's guitarist and songwriter states, "What started out as a fun project, has transformed into a lifelong commitment to sharing our innermost thoughts with the world. The feeling that we get when we perform surpasses any negativity we encounter in our personal lives and thats why we love what we do so much." Alighieri's sound can be described as a doom-laden mixture of death metal, hardcore, and post-rock.
