Alison is no stranger to stages both large and small. She toured for five years with the award-winning six-women a cappella group, Vocolot, and performed at venues ranging from Skirball Museum in Los Angeles to the Jewish World Music Festival in Vancouver, Canada to the Limmud Conference in Nottingham, England, to Lincoln Center in New York.
Equally at home in classical, pop, jazz, soul or almost any genre, Alison was given high honors in San Francisco's 2002 Cabaret Competition, followed by joining San Franciscos cover band, Princess (a female tribute to Prince) with whom she performed in San Franciscos top venues. Alison later joined forces with a popular music review production called "Down Broadway," the highly acclaimed corporate cover band, Big Bang Beat, and a number of jazz trios. Throughout this time, Alison provided vocal session and/or arrangement work for artists in London, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Most recent projects include a soon-to-be-released Jason Becker album, The Sims video game, the Eragon video game, and several independent films.
Alison has trained professionally in jazz, pop, classical, and karnatic indian techniques with leading instructors including Raz Kennedy, Helen Stephens, and Jane Sharp. An active community organizer, Alison has volunteered her pipes regularly for nonprofit organizations including Bread and Roses and San Franciscos's Glide Memorial Gospel Choir where she was a regular soloist.
Alison recently relocated to Los Angeles where she continues to serve as a session vocalist, jazz singer, as well as develop her own material.
I'll add that I've also spent a great deal of my life as a nonprofit organizer, health and social welfare academic (acquired an MSc in Health Policy from the London School of Economics), an avid traveler, and dog-worshipper. ;-)
Wowzers! You are all over this month too! Don't forget to light the candles like a good Jew or Hanukah Harry will come after you... serious. I didn't light the menorah one year and he had me dancing the horah till my tootsies went blue... better pack one of those travel menorahs or two, just to be safe! You know, the itsy bitsy ones that use b-day candles? Or they have digital menorahs online... but I don't think they are quite the same... or if that even counts... Just take my word for it, light the candles! Hanukah Harry is no joke when he shows up looking for smoke. And NO! he's not too cheap to become a proud lighter owner! He's just in need of company. Yep, you guessed it, he's kind of a loner. So heed my advice! Give those candles a light... aid Harry on his smokey path and avoid his rotten wrath... for no one wants to deal with a cranky old stoner!
