Influences
schumann, wine, scott joplin, mommy & daddy, my main man justin, tom waits, yummy portland beers, rachmaninoff, bad shit that happens to good people places & things & vice versa, pump organs, babies, beach boys, the beach, (i have to admit) tori amos, anouar brahem, coffee, chopin, noe venable, guilt, pain, sadness, disgust, anger, love, past lives, my hungarian gypsy blood. . . maybe some more i can't think of right now. . .
i'm a musical slut who can get enough.
also a recording slut who can't get enough.
piano's my first love, though we're kinda in a rough spot with our relationship at the moment... voice, clarinet, accordion - these are also my friends. bought a banjolele awhile back, as well as a flute... i'm considering recording just a banjolele album since, as i mentioned earlier in the program, the piano isn't willing to give me what i need right now...
i guess i'm learning how to clear the clutter & redefine what the hell it is i'm supposed to be doing with myself, my hands, my ear(s), & how to enjoy this silly little town while i'm still here... moving to st johns-ish has helped. have you BEEN? shit.......
"Ali Ippolito writes music with a haunting poetry and quiet authority that simultaneously tugs, pulls, coaxes, vexes, and inspires. A mezmerizing singer, Ippolito accompanies herself on piano, accordion, and the curious banjolele, giving us fading, sepia-tinged sonic postcards of love and loss.
Her simmering music–as captivating as Tom Waits’ universe of tattooed,angel-headed sinners and hipster saints, Carlos Gardel’s tango-longing or Edith Piaf’s fragile lyric ache– to paraphrase the poet Mina Loy, 'infects us with unendurable ease/touching nerve-terminals.' That’s a good thing"
(published in First Thursday, arts, community, portland, sometimes a great notion)

Hi Ali. HOw are you? Hopefully the music is good. I am not working or going to school at the moment so let me know of any shows you are doing as I would love to see you.....it's been to long. Take care.
What's in Halsey? A post office and a cowboy bar. You cash your checks at the cowboy bar. Glorious! The claim is that they have 50 people in town, but it's an exageration. Have you ever heard that live Neil Young version of Old Man where he says, "I live on a ranch now, lucky me... There's this old man who lives on it... He came with the place when I bought it...he's about 70 years old or something like that." I couldn't have said it better.
Responding 5 months late. I was in Portland, now I'm living in Halsey, NE (40 miles from Broken Bow, NE., no shit.) PLanning on moving back at the end of June. Want to play some music when I get back?
12 yr old version of the Closet Man, book he’s readin has major significance toward the mystery of who he grows up to become…
THE CLOSET MAN, WRITTEN AND CREATED FOR FILM BY MIKE DECKER.........TO BE FILMED AND DIRECTED BY DAMON PARSON......... Born without a chance to a prostitute mother and a bedroom in the closet this young individual will rise to become much more then whatever you think he is… In the beginning you think of him as dumb, slow, screwed up from childhood, haunted from his mother’s murder, and homeless other then, well, your closet… You’re scared of him because you never know which closet he may come out of and no idea what he’ll look like when he does, as his disguise changes with each closet he visits, and stalking you from the inside of your own home for up to weeks before he strikes! Later you mystically begin to realize there is more to this Closet Man killer then ever imagined and eventually chilled as you digest just how much more to him there really is, a story, a goal, and even an end game that is revealed in twist after twist up until the final twisted moment revealing the truth and making sense of all the previous twist and turns that baffle you right till the very end, leaving you breathless…
