NEW RELEASES - Lefthand Pressings is back! LHP-17, 18 and 19 are OUT NOW. "The Suntrap" and "Learning To Draw" are out now too!!.
I am a Scottish musician presently enjoying a period of high productivity and fruitful collaboration. I suppose the correct bracket would be "experimental".
In the last 3 years or so, a hefty chunk of my music has been released on my own Lefthand Pressings imprint with 19 titles having been made available through this channel. A full recent (2005 onwards) discography, including all LHP releases is below.
I have a separate page for LHP which is here. All CDR titles from 2006 until 2008 are o/p - 3 new 2009 titles are now available (see below) and I still have the Eye Shaking Kingdom vinyl LP which costs 9GBP in the UK and 10GBP elsewhere in the world INCLUSIVE of P&P. Paypal is perfect, the address being lefthandpressings (at) btinternet (dot) com.
NEW RELEASES
Learning To Draw CDR Yup, it's here. 17 songs in about 39 minutes. This is, in its way, one of the most important albums I've made. Some stories are best told quickly, directly. Here are some of them - some are mine, some are observed, some blur the distinction. I'm very proud of this album - it travels to a place where I would not usually be found but I am more than just happy to have done so. This has been issued on Sonic Oyster Records and is available from Andrew rather than myself (click on the cat below to hear two more songs from the album and for ordering information).
The Suntrap cassette Issued on the Factotum Tapes label, this is a single piece split over two sides of a C30 (hey, it didn't harm "Ascension" so...) which finds me warping guitar and vocals into a journey through a solar flare. This is almost a high-octane companion to "Sad Faces Of The Moon", the retreat from lunar solemnity and into the imperishable flames of the sun. Unfortunately my copies of this have been swallowed up by the mail "service" so you'll need to go direct to the label.
The Last Day of Summer 3" CDR Inspired by, but not musically related to "Summer's Over" by Susan Matthews, this is a 12 and a half minute piece for multiple guitars that is my attempt to somehow musically encapsulate that feeling I always used to get on the last day of those endless elongated summer holidays one enjoys in one's youth. So it's reflective, sad and maybe a bit apprehensive. Dedicated to Susan, of course. 3" CDR in a foldover card sleeve with a photographic frontispiece - £2 plus P&P (see below for details)
untitled CDR This is 4 tracks, all untitled, running time of a little under 32 minutes so not an epic. This is an all electronic album with particularly spartan artwork. The lack of titles or credits is deliberate. This album feels like the logical fork-in-the-road that albums like "Map Dot Fingerprint", "My Shadows Are At War" and "Ashenground" have led to - dark, sparse, maybe even cold. Not easy listening but then, I never promised you easy listening. So, printed card foldover sleeve with "spider" to keep the disc in place (an idea I pinched from Kevin and Stuart of Smoke Jaguar/Nyali Recordings) inside a premium quality clear PVC oversleeve (of the sort I normally use) - £4 (again, see below for P&P details)
No Monsters - Alec Cheer and Alistair Crosbie Delighted to get this out at last, a second album from the duo occasionally known as AC/AC. To start this one, we reversed our roles from "Standard Procedure In The Hours Of Darkness" so I provided the initial sound material and passed it to Cheer for his attention. After going back and forth for just over a year, the album is now ready and I think it's even better than "Standard..." - acoustic guitars and pianos mix with field recordings and shortwave to create a haunted, colourful dreamscape - a sudden awakening is soothed with a lullaby and the dream starts again. I am confidently suggesting that this is one of the best things I've ever been involved with. Printed card foldover sleeve with photographic print affixed to the front and "spider" to keep the disc in place inside a premium quality clear PVC oversleeve (again, the usual type) - £4 + P&P.
STILL FRESH - Space Weather - Space Weather 7 tracks recorded, edited and mixed at Lefthand Mansions between July and October of last year. Melodic, improvised music in a prog/ambient/kraut headspace (and heartspace, I feel). We're all very happy with the results. We had everything pressed and printed professionally for this and I think they look great. Sound samples are up at the SW MySpace - click the link in my Top Friends space below. £4 + P&P.

"blending low-level hip-hop beats with Scorn-esque bass and elonated guitar riffs to remarkable effect. . . it's that awesome. . . the music is superb, the artwork and packaging equally good. . . [it's] warped shuffling genius. 300% necro, foo'! (5/5)" (Zero Tolerance magazine).
