'The hammer striking a nail right on the head sweetly every time'!! Fin Review............
'As I listen my body is swallowed up by the rich sense of space, mimicking Australia’s great land, and this fresh energy is carried to me like a sweet breeze.'Jazz Tokyo 2008
This trio was formed in Sydney over ten years ago and brings together three of the most exciting, innovative and experienced musicians in contemporary, original Australian jazz music:
Alister Spence (also Wanderlust, Australian Art Orchestra, Clarion fracture Zone).
Lloyd Swanton (also the Necks, the catholics, Bernie McGann Trio)
Toby Hall (also Mike Nock trio, Sandy Evans trio, the World According to James).
They have released three CDs on the Rufus Records label, distributed in Australia by Universal Music. A 4th CD will be released later this year.
Both Flux and Mercury (the 2nd and 3rd releases) have been nominated for Best Australian Jazz Album (ARIA Awards) in 2004 and 2007.
The trio's CDs have also received glowing reviews overseas in The Wire (UK 2008), Jazzwise (UK 2006/2007), Cadence (NY/USA 2007), Swing Journal (Tokyo/Japan 2003) and JazzTokyo.com (2008).
This band is noted for its strong, unique, engaging compositions and for the high level of interplay and energy of their live performance. ‘The trio’s experience together is reflected in a fluency and understanding that allows them to change pace and develop pieces with apparent ease.’ THE GLASGOW HERALD
In 2006 they embarked on a hugely successful tour of clubs and festivals in the UK and Canada, culminating in a concert to more than 5000 people at the International Festival de jazz de Montreal.
The band has been invited to perform at the Tokyo Jazz festival in August this year and hopes to return to Europe in 2009.

It was really nice to see your gig today. I believe the audience there also enjoyed your creative sound because they admired the gig with warm applause. I hope you enjoyed playing your gigs and travelling here. Thanks for having a time to talk to me and shake hands:) I was glad. Looking forward to see you again.
Hi Alister Spence Trio, thanks for the add. Im enjoying your music. It has a great blend of electronic soundscapes and jazz. Oh the glockenspiels in your music are also wonderful. I only have 1 album "Mercury" and especially like track#1,#3,#4,#6,#7,#8,#10,#11 and #13. Looking forward to getting the other works of Alister Spence Trio.
