Born in Calcutta, India in 1985, Ashwini Mishra, known as A-List to the hip hop community, spent his early childhood in Saudi Arabia. After the first gulf war, he spent nearly a year in the United States before moving back to India, where he still resides today. A-List had always been a fan of Hip Hop, but the love for the culture came after his 10th grade year of High School. He picked up an old Run-DMC tape and loved the way the emcee's articulated their words. For the next two years, he would spend his time as a hip hop junkie, collecting as many albums as he could from Rakim and Public Enemy to 2pac.
A-List graduated High School in 2003, around the same time he started messing with rhymes. He began to practice freestyling and perfecting his craft. That lead to small shows at local clubs and colleges, which is where he picked up a buzz. The funny thing is, A-List is one of the only hip hop artists in India, and is single-handedly bringing the culture to his part of the country. Let it be known, the conscious emcee is kicking down the door for all hip hop heads in India. One of his goals is to bring the culture of hip hop his homeland, as well as bring the realness absent in a lot of todays music.
"I aim to bring the realness back especially.", says the young mc. "In lyrics.. I wanna be able to say my piece...whether they like it or not....and I believe independent labels are the only hope for true artists if your not willing to sell out..I can't do dance tracks so I'ma fuck that and just try keep it real..I just wanna do what i love the most..rap!"
A-List's debut EP, "I Can't Lose" is available for download now. Click the image below to find out how!
