ALL ABOUT ANNA's Interests
|
| Music | The music for “All About Anna” was composed by American producer and songwriter M. MAURICE HAWKESWORTH.
Founder of the record label Invisible Wave, Hawkesworth originally made his mark as A&R Creative Manager for Mega Records, where he worked with major bands like Ace of Base and Savage Rose. Approximately 25 of the music videos he commissioned at Mega Records have been shown on MTV Europe, and his song “Marie,” performed by Solveig Sandnes, became a number one hit in Japan. Denmark’s biggest radio and television station DR chose his CD album “Windermere: The World Is Here,” as one of the ten most important Danish albums of 2004.
For “All About Anna,” M. Maurice Hawkesworth has created an original score of great stylistic diversity, including two original songs and a new arrangement of the yearning folk ballad “Once I Had a Sweetheart,” performed in the film by Maria Køhnke. | | Movies | While in the same genre as "The Devil In The Flesh" and "The Brown Bunny," "All About Anna" is the first sexually explicit mainstream film to respect its audience enough to give them a happy ending.

This slick chick flick with realistically explicit sex scenes comes from Denmark — where modern movie porn more or less began. Innocent Pictures is a subdivision of Zentropa Productions, the innovative Danish company associated with controversial director Lars Von Trier, specializing in hardcore made by and for women.
Shot in English, not dubbed, with Danish, English and French actors, mostly from the mainstream, it is beautifully crafted and constantly entertaining.
Johan, the love of Anna’s life, took off on a three-month sea voyage, and five years later is still sailing. She drowns her sorrow with a succession of sexual quickies — “no commitment, no casualties” — but when Johan unexpectedly pops up again, her passion reignites.
The two lovers try to reconnect emotionally and physically, but a series of missed cues and misunderstandings keep keeping them apart.
Anna’s brief lesbian encounter with an actress in Paris (French porn star Ovidie, the movie’s only professional adult talent) sets her on the path back to Johan. Finally they connect for a romantic — and explicit — ending.
Pretty blonde Gry Bay, a Danish pop singer, is perfect as Anna, as is hunky English actor Mark Stevens as Johan. Eileen Daily, a Brit horror-flick star, amuses as Anna’s horny roommate. None of them seem to have a problem with performing sex.
The sex is real, but not in your face as in porno, and the men use condoms. The extras disc includes a director’s cut that is no less explicit, just different from the producer’s version (and frankly not as effective).
The question is, why can’t mainstream American films move on up to this grown-up degree of sexual explicitness?
Retailing: This movie can be sold as either mainstream or adult — the best of both worlds.

ALL ABOUT ANNA
As A Specially Packaged Two Disc Collectors Edition DVD
DATELINE January 25, 2008 | Daniel Metcalf Public Relations

LOS ANGELES, CA - (January 25, 2008 DM/PR) - Wicked Pictures is pleased to announce that it is shipping a deluxe, two disc Collectors Edition DVD of the multiple award winning adults-only crossover feature All About Anna. Billed as “Scandinavian erotica by women for women and couples,” the movie’s North American DVD release coincides with the announcement this week that one of the film’s co-executive producers, Peter Aalbæk Jensen, has received a 2008 Academy Award nomination for Best Short Film (Live Action) as producer of Zentropa’s At Night. All About Anna will arrive at retail locations nationwide January 29th, 2008.
Over the last twelve months, All About Anna has won a number of awards and played the film festival circuit both internationally and in the United States. Last Spring saw this unique English language, Danish lensed erotic film snaring three major trophies at the Scandinavian Adult Awards, presented by the internet portal Side6.dk. The picture received awards for Best Scandinavian Couples Film, Best Scandinavian Actor (Thomas Raft), and Best Selling Scandinavian Star (Gry Bay). Filmmaker Jessica Nilsson was also nominated for Best Director. Just prior to the awards ceremony taking place at the Erotic World Fair in Copenhagen's Valbyhallen, All About Anna made its North American theatrical debut as part of Cinematic Sexualities Of The 21st Century, a month long look at global erotica sponsored by the University Of Chicago’s Doc Films, where it was screened alongside 9 Songs and Irreversible.
The new two disc Collectors Edition of this sexy couples’ pleaser offers audiences several hours of viewing excitement, including two different cuts of the film (the Producers’ Cut and the Director’s Cut), Commentaries By Gry Bay, Mark Stevens, Eileen Daly, and Ovidie, Unedited Sex Scenes, Photo Gallery, Trailer And TV Spot, Screenplay, Synopsis, Biographies, Press Materials, and more.
A lighthearted romance with hardcore sex, All About Anna’s unique appeal to adventurous couples is succinctly summed up by European author Marcelle Perks, who recommends the film in her popular book Secrets Of Porn Star Sex with this tantalizing suggestion:
“Rather than being intimidated by porn, do a bit of research and find something you can have fun with. An ideal ‘introduction movie’ is the hit film ‘All About Anna,’ a mainstream film that features real sex!”

All About ALL ABOUT ANNA
ALL ABOUT ANNA is a new type of erotic film, based on real life rather than on the wish-fulfilling fantasies that characterize
traditional sex movies. It portrays a type of woman with whom we all
are familiar, fighting with problems most women know all too well.
The film is also an attempt to integrate explicit sex as part of the
storytelling and character development. Thus, the film’s sex scenes play a role in defining the characters and their relationships. Without the sex scenes, the film’s drama would fall apart.
Striving for optimal realism, All About Anna was shot on
location in Copenhagen and Paris. The romantic prologue and flashbacks were shot at sea on an Greenlandic icebreaker, a bittersweet conversation was shot in front of the Eiffel Tower, and the story’s emotional climax features such landmarks as Copenhagen’s Royal Castle. The scenes in Anna’s apartment were shot in the real apartment of actress Gry Bay. Here, the film’s first major sex scene was performed repeatedly by Gry and Thomas Raft in front of a huge window, witnessed by astonished
neighbors while traffic and everyday life passed by on the busy city
street outside.
All About Anna marks the culmination of the gradual move towards the use of explicit images in art house cinema which was initiated by Lars Von Trier’s The Idiots. Renowned for their search for cinematic truth, realism and new means of expression, Lars Von Trier, Zentropa, Innocent Pictures, and Wicked Pictures have truly brought erotic cinema into the 21st Century.
ALL ABOUT ANNA is an Innocent Pictures production in association with Zentropa Productions.
The Collectors Edition DVD is available in the U.S. from Wicked Pictures.

All About Anna
Director: Jessica Nilsson
Cast: Gry Bay, Mark Stevens, Eileen Daly, Thomas Raft, Morten Shelbech, Thomas Lundy, Ovidie
Review by Gram Ponante
Anna (Gry Bay) is a theatrical costume designer unlucky in love but not wanting for sex. Director Nilsson makes the best of a problematic script that is often simplistic and precious. Marketed as a romantic movie for women, "All About Anna" certainly pays attention to all the tempestuous relationships a blindingly attractive woman can have in today's theatre community.
As in Lars von Trier's "Breaking the Waves", "AAA" features the heroine's love going off to sea and coming back compromised. The rest of the movie deals with Anna's comings and goings with Johann (Mark Stevens) and their mutual screwups.
Wicked Pictures is taking the unprecedented step for a porn company in distributing this movie in the United States. As a porn film, no one would argue that there is not enough sex in it. The sex depicted is also too tame for the established market. But the sets, direction, acting, and script are, in the absence of lots of humping, above par for standard porn fare.
So this might be the perfect porn gateway drug. The one blowjob carried to completion results in shame and awkwardness - just like in real life! - rather than sperm-gargling, sperm-drinking from champagne flutes, and/or sperm-swapping with Cytherea. So that's got to count for something.
Where "Anna" borrows best from Dogma '95 practitioners is the natural lighting and digital filming. Often the movie is heartbreakingly sweet and present, with no little help from its centerpiece, Gry Bay. Her episodes with men, women, and herself are refreshingly devoid of the porn posturing that often compensates here for a lack of time, budget, enthusiasm, beauty, and talent.
But without all the sex, the viewer turns his/her attention to things like the script, which doesn't do justice even to a thoughtful audience willing to forgive almost anything for the love of Gry Bay.
"I had to conquer my fear!" the script has Anna saying in voiceover. "I had to go back to that flat!"
Ultimately, "Anna" is a sweet movie with a happy ending. Men will like it for Bay, loopy roommate Eileen Daly, and LTG tryst partner Ovidie, and women will like it for Anna's choice in partners, especially Johann.
Do you know who won't like it? The French. But you'll have to watch the movie to learn why.

Gry Bay, the "Anna" of the title, is a babe, but she doesn't get down 'n' dirty until the end of this feature. First, she has to spend some time in sexual purgatory for not being faithful to the "love of her life" (Mark Stevens), who mysteriously leaves her one day, only to show up five years later as she's about to move in with a new boyfriend (Thomas Raft).
Anna and Stevens play sexual tag for a while, until she heads off to Paris to design costumes for a play while her oversexed roommate gets it on with another lover. Needless to say, Gry and Mark do the deed at the end.
Retailing: Decent productions values make this Scandinavian XXer a winner with the couples.

Electronic Press Kit Information
Gry Bay, Mark Stevens and Eileen Daly star in the provocative mainstream feature film “All About Anna,” directed by award-winning filmmaker Jessica Nilsson.
A co-production by Innocent Pictures and Zentropa Productions,“All About Anna” is a slice-of-life romantic comedy with explicit lovemaking scenes.
“All About Anna” was produced by Marcella Lindstad from a screenplay by Anya Aims and Loretta Fabiana. Nicolas Barbano, Peter Aalbæk Jensen and Claus Sørensen served as executive producers. The behind-the-scenes creative team included director of photography Claus Lykke, editor Martin Bernfeld and composer M. Maurice Hawkesworth.
SYNOPSIS: Anna (Gry Bay) is a young costume designer, focused on her job and wary of getting caught up in romantic relationships. She has just found a new apartment, and is tempted to let her latest boyfriend, Frank (Thomas Raft), move in with her. Instead, she finds a tenant: The flamboyant, fun-loving Camilla (Eileen Daly), who shares Anna’s views on love and commitment. For both of them, it’s all about fun. Strangers without strings. No commitment, no casualties.
But Anna’s resolve is challenged after an unexpected encounter with an ex-boyfriend, Johan (Mark Stevens), who once upon a time was the man in her life. Johan is ready to start over, and Anna is tempted – but also afraid of losing her newly won independency and, not least, of getting hurt.
More than ever, she needs to get back on the merry-go-round and move on. In order to forget all about Johan’s existence, she stages one obstacle after another. Fortunately, she receives an offer to design costumes for a theatre in Paris. As far away from romantic temptation as possible. Or so she thinks.
Anna’s problem is her determination to become an independent, untouchable person. She is too scared to rely on anybody else, even those with the best intentions. Unless she learns to accept that human relationships of importance sometimes do hurt, a woman like Anna risks becoming very lonely. And that is the real story of “All About Anna."
ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
Structurally, "All About Anna" is divided into a prologue and four chapters. The four chapters can be watched as sensual short stories; each has an erotic highlight but climaxes in sexual frustration as Anna and Johan almost manage to get back together, and yet not. Unfulfilled desire is as much a part of life as those magic moments of total rapture. This film has both.
“All About Anna” is an attempt to create a new type of erotic film, based on real life rather than on the wish-fulfilling fantasies that characterize traditional sex movies. It portrays a type of woman with whom we all are familiar, fighting with problems most women know all too well.
The film is also an attempt to integrate explicit sex as part of the storytelling and character development. Thus, the film’s sex scenes are part of defining the characters and their relationships. Without the sex scenes, the film’s drama would fall apart.
This was a particular challenge to the film’s cast, who had to cope with the traditional social and human dramas associated with having real sex in front of a camera. Fortunately the film’s actors and actresses managed to extent their dramatic performances way beyond the norm and truly managed to push the envelope, achieving new means of dramatic expression. The sex scenes were carefully planned and rehearsed prior to shooting, allowing the actors to stay in character through every embrace and caress.
Striving for optimal realism, “All About Anna” was shot on location in Copenhagen and Paris. Here, the film’s first major sex scene was performed repeatedly by Gry Bay and Thomas Raft in front of a huge window, witnessed by astonished neighbors while traffic and everyday life passed by on the busy city street outside.
“All About Anna” marks a culmination of the gradual slide towards use of explicit images in art house cinema which was initiated by Lars von Trier’s Dogme-success “Idioterne” (“The Idiots”). Renowned for their search for cinematic truth, realism and new means of expression, Lars von Trier, Zentropa, and Innocent Pictures have truly brought erotic cinema into the 21st Century.

Standing out among her many feature films is her starring role as Lilith Silver in Jake West’s “Razor Blade Smile”. During shooting of Ovidie's sex scene in “All About Anna”, Lars von Trier visited the set, and these two famous pop culture icons soon became friends.
JESSICA NILSSON

since 1988 lived in Denmark, where she studied at the Royal Danish Academy
of Fine Arts and graduated from the Danish Film School.

Do Us Part" and other outstanding radio plays written and directed for
Denmark's Radio. In 2005, the Danish Association of the Blind awarded her
its Radioplay Award for her erotic radio play "Burning Desire",
produced by Denmark's Radio. In its motivation, the Jury wrote: "Jessica Nilsson is a
woman not afraid of going off the rails to follow a story to its extreme
consequence. She wholeheartedly relates to dangerous subjects and genres
which nice girls normally leave to others."
She is however best known for her unique music videos and award winning
short films such as "The Sausage", which won First Prize at the 1998
Oslo Short Film Festival, and "Spotless", which was in competition at
Sundance 2001 and won the Special Jury Prize at Flickerfest 2001 in Sydney. At Odense
Film Festival 2000, in connection with her short film "Spotless",
she received the Danish Directors' Prize of Merit.
M. MAURICE HAWKESWORTH
The music for “All About Anna” was composed by American producer and songwriter M. MAURICE HAWKESWORTH. PETER AALBAEK JENSEN
Since teaming up with Lars von Trier in 1992 and founding Zentropa Productions, executive producer PETER AALBAEK JENSEN has become the most powerful figure in Danish cinema.
His film and television productions number close to a hundred, and in 1998 he established Filmbyen, a huge film studio complex just outside of Copenhagen. Among Zentropa’s best known feature films are Lars von Trier’s Oscar-nominated "Breaking the Waves," which also took the Grand Prix at Cannes, his musical "Dancer in the Dark," which won the Golden Palm for Best Film and Best Actress, and "Dogville," starring Nicole Kidman and James Caan.
Zentropa is also famous for the Dogme-manifesto, which demands that directors refrain from use of camera dollies, musical underscoring, artificial light, etc. Though initially ridiculed, use of the Dogme-concept has continually resulted in critically acclaimed films with international box-office success.
On “All About Anna,” Peter Aalbæk Jensen shares his executive producer credit with NICOLAS BARBANO and CLAUS SØRENSEN, with whom he founded Innocent Pictures.
