I'm happily married to my best friend, and we have 3 amazing boys (ages 10, 7, and 5). In March '07 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a right mastectomy. I've gone through six months of chemo and six weeks of radiation. I started my five years of Tamoxifen in November '07, and switched over to Arimidex in July '08, but back to Tamoxifen in December '08 (I was breaking out in a rash). I also did one year of Herceptin infusions, which ended October 30, 2008.
I had a hysterectomy in May '08 due to carrying the BRCA 2 genetic mutation and I started my reconstruction on March 30, 2009. Yes, I've had a surgery every year for the past three years.
I opted to have a right latissimus dorsi flap and a left mastectomy with implants put in on both sides. Unfortunately things have not gone according to plan and I wound up with clots in my left arm. It's been quite an experience.
As of the end of July, I still had clots, but much less of them. I'm really hoping they're gone and I can get my final surgery done before my insurance changes on January 1.
To read my story from the beginning, go to my blog and start with April 1, 2007.
We're pagan (have been for years), and are very liberal in our beliefs. We try to expose our children to as many other cultures as possible.
