Allegra Dolores is a movement in sound - two young ladies who love to sang/jam/rock out/express/love/teach/relate/release.
The group is comprised of two sisters - named for the range of emotions they encompass - Allegra(means joy) and Dolores(means pain). Between the two lies a passion for soul, funk, rock and hip hop.
When you think of a starting point for them - it all falls together around the same time they joined an organization called Black Fist, back in 2001.
Black Fist created The Militant Mic Concert Series and Compilation Cd as a way to showcase conscious/progressive artists' music to the masses and raise awareness about the plight of poor people in the urban cities. Allegra and Dolores played a huge role in the success of the tour, which spanned into the musical hubs of New York/New Jersey, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Cincinnati and hometown Chicago.
Since embarking on the grassroots music tour with Black Fist, they have developed their sound and stage presence through consistent hard work and practice, practice, practice. Their music moves the listener because there's truth in there - the true joys and pains of life come alive in the music.
They have shared the stage with some of the indie scene's best - from Hip Hop to Afrobeat. They opened two dates for the internationally known hip hop trio, One Self, for the Children of Possibility USA Tour - expanding their horizons to embrace a world audience. Since then, the ladies have shared the stage with talents such as Siji and Nadiyah (formerly of Arrested Development), and regularly bless mics with Chitown favorites Tina Howell, Yaw, Africa Hot, Poetree Chicago, Small Change and more. And that doesn't even crack the surface of the love affair the ladies of Allegra Dolores have with the Chicago hip hop community.
Never to be held down by labels - the ladies of Allegra Dolores rock the funk(!!) out with their band Room 11, creating a sound that is funk/soul/rock and fresh!
Allegra Dolores is currently finishing up a HIGHLY anticipated record and continues to rock stages as they grow with the recording process.
