I am interested in all things that keep me entertained and fulfilled. I like football and hockey, music, movies, good books, men who are MEN, and good conversation. I am interested in children's and animal welfare, the law, and, of course, life. I am very involved with my work, my family, and my friends. I tend to take on a lot at once, but I give a lot too, so it all works out in the end. I also keep up with politics and current events, and a little bit of gossip thrown in here and there to keep life interesting :)
Music
I love music with lyrics you can feel and contemplate, music with words that echo in your mind and soul long after the song is over. Excellent lyrics can send chills down my spine, among other things. ;-)
That said, my music choices vary and my favorites depend on what day of the week you ask. I bounce back and forth between David Gray and Eminem, classical and 3 Doors Down. I can take just about anything, anything BUT country.
My favorites right now: Matt Nathanson, Gavin Rossdale, Staind, Secondhand Serenade, Tristan Prettyman, U2, James Carrington, Jon McLaughlin, Cary Brothers, Dave Matthews, Howie Day, Rob Thomas, Faith Hill, Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, P!nk, Augustana, Snow Patrol, James Blunt, Matchbox Twenty, John Legend, Fuel, and Coldplay. Tool is quickly becoming a favorite, as are others I steal from my male friends.
Men have awesome taste in music, seriously, girls have no clue!
Movies that make you think, laugh, or tell a good story: Atonement, Walk the Line, Schindler's List, The Pianist, American Pie (1-3), Two for the Money, Wedding Crashers, Lady and the Tramp, Serendipity (my all-time favorite), some weird obsession I have with all of the Saw movies, and anything with Matthew McConaughey, John Cusack, or Reese Witherspoon.
Television
Television seems to serve the purpose of background noise while I am doing other things lately. When I am truly bored, I might be watching Gray's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Dancing with the Stars, or Project Runway. My soap opera of choice: All My Children, but again it is only background noise anymore. And DAMMIT I miss Friends! I pretty much gave up on television during the writers' strike.
Books
My all-time favorites: James Agee's Let Us Now Praise Famous Men, Milton's Paradise Lost, and Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird. It gets no better than these, I promise.
The last good book I read was "Love You, Mean It," the story of four 9/11 widows--EXCELLENT READ! Hillary and Bill Clinton's biographies, anything and everything by John Grisham, Angels and Demons, The DaVinci Code, Angela's Ashes and Tis' (not so thrilled by Teacher Man), and everything by Dr. Seuss and David Shannon or illustrated by David Catrow (sorry, those go with the job, occupational hazard :)) I also read the Bible when I feel the need to be inspired or to renew my hope.
By the way, I will never understand all the hype behind The Purpose-Driven Life. I hated it. Ranked right up there with Moby Dick, and just ask my Studies of the Novel professor how THAT whale went down with me.
Heroes
My heroes are my mother, who always looks on the bright side of life and who is good and kind to everyone who comes in her path, and my 8th grade English teacher who mapped the rest of my academic life without even knowing it.
And I can't forget my grandparents and dear old Dad: I miss him terribly, and he truly knew what it means to turn your life around.
I am a best friend, a daughter and sister. I am also a contributing member of the society in which I live. I know myself, perhaps too well, but that knowledge makes me open to knowing others as well.
I believe in balance . . .
*I am a raging perfectionist, but only in my own pursuits;
*I have a touch of OCD about certain things, but I have learned to embrace these tendencies;
*I trust without question, until you give me a reason to change my mind;
*I am the most open-minded person you will meet, but I am very clear in my own beliefs and opinions;
*I can throw a temper tantrum that would make a 2-year-old proud, but I am quick to realize my own ridiculousness and the first to admit my mistakes.
It's all about life, laughter, and undeniable, incomparable love, combined with those times that make you hang your head but also make you appreciate the good times that you once had and will have soon again.
Balance.
I am a teacher. Writing is my dearest hobby and my therapeutic escape. I write blogs for all who believe they can expand my mind and who are seeking expansion of their own. Actually, they are all for fun, with a serious note thrown in here and there to maintain that ever-essential balance. I work with kids all day - my blogs are a means of getting my daily allowance of adult intercourse.
Get your mind out of the gutter!

Monet - The father of impressionism, and a favorite of mine. The perfect balance between the real and the surreal, bringing to life spontaneity, color, and light.
He reminds us that sometimes, in life, it is more important to value the essence over the details.
Who I'd like to meet:
Anyone who believes that they have something interesting to add to conversation.
I have the most fabulous friends any girl has ever been blessed with, they are there for me always, and I always feel as if I can never sufficiently show them my gratitude.
