Influences
The entire population of Rabun County, the Decatur Sunday Night Jam songwriting geniuses, a whole lot of American literature, National Public Radio, WALH (Apple's Little Home) a.m. 1340, the Ball Blue Book of Canning, Barbara Kingsolver, the Oakhurst Community Garden, long country rambles with my dog, my loving and entertaining family, the wisdom of my cherished friends
Allison is one of twelve finalists in the 2008 South Florida Folk Festival Singer-Songwriter Competition!
Her song "Famous Blue Apron," from her new CD release Redbud Winter, spent two weeks at NUMBER ONE and nine weeks in the top 15 on the WOT90 internet radio charts.
Raised in Rabun County, in the farthest corner of the Northeast Georgia mountains, Allison Adams writes songs that draw on a reservoir of experiences from her upbringing--comfort offered by a tiny A.M. gospel radio station, the fragile economy of a rural community, the traditional art and science of canning food. Allison's music is also influenced by the sounds she grew up hearing--the local bluegrass and traditional music of her community, her father's Grandpa Jones albums, her mother's "The Sound of Music" soundtrack, and a lot of southern rock--as well as her own inner voice. She also had ten years of classical piano training from age six and began playing acoustic guitar at fifteen.
After high school, she set aside her music interests to pursue an education and a career as a writer and editor. She completed a graduate degree in English at Emory University in 2000 then bought a new guitar and began writing, singing, and playing again. She also picked up the English concertina. In years past she has sung and played concertina around the Atlanta area and the North Georgia mountains in the folk duo Bittersweet and the original roots-rock band Letters to Mary.
Harmony singing brings Allison great joy and she loves finding a place for her voice in duets or ensembles. Since 2003, she has been one-third of Local Honey, an acoustic trio that performs “songs we like,” whether it’s jazz standards or Allison’s originals, and features female duet harmony. She sings alto and plays concertina and guitar with the eclectic vocal quartet Old Enough to Know Better. She also sings and plays guitar, mandolin, and concertina with the trio The Beans, which does a mix of the members' originals and some cover favorites.

Howdy again, Allison! How are you doing these days? Looks like you've got no shortage of places to play.
Things are fairly good with me. I finally graduated college, so now I'm out there looking for a job. I recall that you used to work in editing -- right? -- and I wonder, do you happen to know if anyone is looking for a junior editor or the like?

I'd like to come out to Kavarna some night, Allison. Sounds like fun! I need to see if I can book a date at Eddie's Attic too. Would love to see all my Decatur friends soon. I'll holler when I'm heading ya'll's way. Take care!
Happy New Year! It was great to see you again last Sunday at Kavarna. Thanks for the chance to play, it was fun. I love the idea of singing in a group, sharing music. I'll be at Kavarna tonight, 8pm - Songwriter series.
Hi, Allison! Thanks for the add. I also am an English major turned songwriter -- there seem to be an awful lot of us out there, someone actually guessed my major recently as soon as I said I wrote songs.
I like your songs, by the way ... it's apparent there's some craft and lyricism put into them. Right now "Redbud Winter" is the one I like most.
I'll be doing an hour set as part of the Atlanta Songwriters Series at Kavarna on Jan. 3, in case you're looking for something to do that Saturday night. :)
