well my name is allison kaplan.
my middle name is devorah.
im a proud victom of the ever-so-obvious obsession that has forever taken over me: making music.
the last whopping 18 years(and only years) of my life, ive been lucky enough to live in my home sweet home-town, in southern california. always growing up around music(my dad is a jazz pianist), i started singing before i can remember anything, and my piano playing eventually came along around the ripe old age of 4. once i started writing my own songs, which id like to say happened around 3rd grade or so..??....i was hooked. i still remember the very first moment i ever thought that this was gunna become my life one day, mainly because it was the day i bought my very first guitar in 1998(yeaaahh babyy. representin' the power rangers and pop-tart prime years).
i was eight :]
i can still feel the nervousness of walking into that grungey music store, and buying the cheapest full-size acoustic i could wrap my arms around. as i proudly walked out of that place with my $98 guitar, i remember a feeling of excitment...of the unknown. i think this is because, at that very second, i was unaware that those feelings would become the exact thing which would drive me to persue every future moment of the rest of my life.
never living toooo far from the beach, i took up surfing around 12yrs old, and at 16, i started working at a little surf shop in malibu. for me, some of life's greatest and most incredible moments have happened while being in some mismatched bathing suit, tan as hell, with my best friends, watching the sun set slow around my half-submerged surfboard, in the murky L.A. ocean water...
putting a pen to paper(or napkin, cardboard, walls of a bathroom, my hand, blah blah the list goes on)and letting it all spill out of me, is so much more than writing another song. its so much more than "venting" my little thoughts, and feeling "unique."
its what gets me through my life.
its my fucking medication, and i can't live without it.
all this feeling and emotion and frustration and happiness and confusion is addicting to me.
being vournable is scary, but so is never living your life.
i never want to be anything im not. i always try to make sure people to know who i am. the real me. fake people really freak me out. i just try to be my funny, retarded self every day, and maybe, who knows....people might like it :] and i mean, COMON...i think i speak for all of us, when i say that the world doesn't need another friggin' britneylindsaymariahfuckingcarey divalicious girl in the music industry right now(sorry TMZ).
perhaps maybe, quite possibly, its safe to say that this could be a good thing. that all my fellow singers and songwriters, who are also starting this journey, will hopefully become the face of music one day.

im just your average girl, who goes through the same shit any teenager goes though. who's felt the same love, laughed the same embarrassing laugh, and felt the same pain of when it feels like the world is literally falling apart.

but lets get serious here. if i could pick anything...it's that i hope you find this music relatable. i hope it hits you hard, like a big fat smack on the face, and reminds you of your OWN fantastic stories and stuggles and happiness and sadness. somewhere, between the cracks of this little detailed "thing" i've created.... i hope you can find something real.
