Personal
Basically, a human being with feelings and ideals who is committed to growing, learning, teaching, loving, sharing, recovering, and surviving. I am creative, intuitive, sincere, disciplined, funny, philosophical, spiritual, but open minded and independent. Adore Labradors. Impressed with patience and politeness. Humbled by faith and trust. Pet peeved by irreverence and arrogance. Fascinated by architecture and fashion. Passionate about writing, music, movies, photography and technology. Enjoy singing. Love cars as much as I love cameras and computers. Could bowl, swim, and play volleyball. Good at table tennis. Grew up in a conservative home and attended Christian boarding schools. Second and middle child; was very sickly, but would survive a few childhood diseases. Began writing poetry early on and was very studious. Held jobs as math/science tutor during school summers. Member of high school, college and church choirs. Formerly a complete vegetarian.
My Own Quotes
~I can't be any more than what I am, and any more than what I can become, for how we love is all there is to life, to sustain each other in goodness and in strife.
~I love to teach what I know but I will learn new things.
~I value time and friendship and the silence that comes with waiting.
~Nothing is more fulfilling than realizing your love has grown in a person you hardly knew.
~It's better to be loved than to be lucky. Being loved requires and provides maintenance while being lucky is only happenstance.
Discussion
There's a difference between mockery and levity. Understand, everyone has a right to his opinion, but I think it should only be up to where it's not deliberately offensive as to mock. In the workplace, people constantly flaunt their talents, skills or achievements, for personal marketing and better networking, but that's not even bragging. It's just how the world is set to move in a highly commercialized environment amidst stiff competition. In real life, the key is acceptance, if there has to be harmony. And change is always part of the equation, whether we like it or not.
Conviction
I admire those who sacrifice their lives for freedom and for their country; they are my top heroes. Have high respect for those who manage their relationships with utmost devotion and unwavering loyalty. I believe in God, in forgiveness and miracles; in democracy, equality, freedom and justice. Neither superstitious nor too religiously fanatical. Not old-fashioned either, except during Thanksgiving. Yes, I got traditional values, including optimism. Honest with self; I cry once in a while. For peace and understanding, I look to nature and I often find it there. Welcome!
INTERESTS
General
Life, liberty and happiness. Music, movies and humor. Poetry, photography and art. Science, health and medicine. Philosophy, history and law. Computers, technology and design. Sports, travel and entertainment.
Music
Grew up listening to gospel, folk and rock songs. Then started to appreciate all kinds of music styles. A few people I consider to be my lasting musical influences are Burt Bacharach, Sarah Vaughan, Aretha Franklin, Barbra Streisand, Elton John and the Carpenters.
Movies
First bunch of movie titles that I could usually blurt out easily from memory:
Lawrence of Arabia, West Side Story, All About Eve
The Great Escape, My Best Friend's Wedding, Thelma & Louise, Shawshank Redemption, The Pianist, Road To Perdition, No Country For Old Men, Pulp Fiction, Unforgiven, An Affair To Remember, Giant, High Noon, Casablanca, The French Connection, The Godfather, American Beauty, Fargo, Hud, The Untouchables, The Deer Hunter, Bridges of Madison County, A Beautiful Mind, Schindler's List, In The Heat of the Night, Glory, Imitation of Life, Amadeus, From Here To Eternity
Television
Not that I watch a lot, but to list a few that I'm interested in, here are a few:
Biography, Discovery, Food, Health, History, Movie Classics, MTV, People's Court, Sports, Technology, Travel, VH-1
Books
I usually love inspirational-philosophical-poetic books like Kahlil Gibran, Og Mandino, Norman Vincent Peale, and Elizabeth Barrett Browning, and these were the books I read as a kid. But I could be as varied as can be at any given day. So here's a few of my favorites:
Pride and Prejudice (Austen), To Kill a Mockingbird (Lee), Of Mice and Men (Steinbeck), The Catcher in the Rye (Salinger), The Count of Monte Cristo (Dumas), Profiles in Courage (Kennedy), More Than Words (Cuomo), The Audacity of Hope (Obama)
Heroes
This list is totally thought out, so as to make a point, based on my background and discipline:
Jesus, Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, Mahatma Gandhi, Albert Schweitzer, Martin Luther King Jr., Franklin D. Roosevelt, Mikhail Gorbachev, Jimmy Carter, Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu, Pope John Paul II, Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, Louis Pasteur, Alexander Fleming, James D. Watson, Francis Crick, Jonas Salk, Albert Sabin, Orville Wright, Wilbur Wright, Henry Ford, Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey
Favorite Quotations
I made this list with love and passion in mind:
It's the heart afraid of breaking that never learns to dance. It is the dream afraid of waking that never takes the chance. It is the one who won't be taken who cannot seem to give. And the soul afraid of dying that never learns to live. --Bette Midler
Love never dies a natural death. It dies because we don't know how to replenish its source. It dies of blindness and errors and betrayals. It dies of illness and wounds; it dies of weariness, of withering, of tarnishing. --Anais Nin
We take a risk when we open our hearts because the truth is, if we open our hearts, we will get hurt. You can’t open your heart and not have some hurt because you’re in a human experience. Even if it’s the love of your life and you have many wonderful, deepening, growing, powerful years together, it’s a human experience and that person will pass over. Love takes courage. Be courageous. --Mary Manin Morrissey
Nothing takes the taste out of peanut butter quite like unrequited love. --Charlie Brown
To fall in love is awfully simple, but to fall out of love is simply awful. --Bess Myerson
Hearts are not had as a gift, but hearts are earned. --William Butler Yeats
For all sad words of tongue and pen, the saddest are these, "It might have been". --John Greenleaf Whittier
Ever has it been that love knows not its own depth until the hour of separation. --Kahlil Gibran
Love can sometimes be magic. But magic can sometimes... just be an illusion. --Javan
Love is unconditional, relationships are not. --Grant Gudmundson
Some of us think holding on makes us strong; but sometimes it is letting go. --Herman Hesse
Real tears are not those that fall from the eyes and cover the face, but those that fall from the heart and cover the soul. --by Christine
We enjoy warmth because we have been cold. We appreciate light because we have been in darkness. By the same token, we can experience joy because we have known sadness." --David Weatherford
I have no regrets. I wouldn't have lived my life the way I did if I was going to worry about what people were going to say. --Ingrid Bergman
Guard well within yourself that treasure, kindness. Know how to give without hesitation, how to lose without regret, how to acquire without meanness. --George Sand
Make the most of your regrets; never smother your sorrow, but tend and cherish it till it comes to have a separate and integral interest. To regret deeply is to live afresh. --Henry David Thoreau
Difficulty is the excuse history never accepts. --Edward R. Murrow
No one ever excused his way to success. --Dave Del Dotto
Never ruin an apology with an excuse. --Kimberly Johnson
There aren’t nearly enough crutches in the world for all the lame excuses. --Marcus Stroup
Do the thing you fear, and the death of fear is certain. --Ralph Waldo Emerson
Being ignorant is not so much a shame, as being unwilling to learn. --Benjamin Franklin
