All Night Army is:
M. Oliverio-guitars & vocals
Brian Kolterman-keyboards, synths, & vocals
Michele Bowman-drums, percussion, & vocals
formed: December 2005 ....Brooklyn, NY
Oliverio & Kolterman came from NYC's White Hassle (m.o.) & The Killer Elite (m.o & b.k.).
After 1 EP ("The Pyramid Power" EP) and a follow up full-length ("The Killer Elite," which got some decent airplay across the country) the band broke up, or just fell apart. Oliverio went back to a work-study program dedicated to exploring the effects of Sensory Deprivation on the human mind, and Kolterman returned to his studies in Crypto-zoology,
discovering three previously unknown species of reptile. After a year the two decided to
start a new project which would omit the presence of bass guitar and push the potential
of spontaneous songwriting. A long search (which ended within a week) for an extremely
dynamic drummer, led them to Michele Bowman (former Cartographer) who possessed abundant amounts of raw soul and, also, technical proficiency just in case. During their first session together an immediate connection was apparant.
It was decided by all three to keep the songwriting process spontaneous and democratic, avoiding any and all inevetible power struggles. Finding the complex inside of the simple and combining organic and in-organic elements became two of the many mysterious and beautiful missions undertaken by the band. They committed themselves to breaking through the limitations of genre and pop-expectation. Each rehearsal is considered possibly worthy of worldwide release and mistakes are seen as gateways to the unknown. Although songs are formed and are re-created during live performances, the majority of them are free to evolve. Some are more traditionally arranged and some are never performed the same way twice, with only touchstones to guide the band through improvisational journeys into the great wide open.
The frenetic intensity of Kolterman's keyboard style, Oliverio's guitar playing, and Bowman's drumming are never to be underestimated. Seemingly in a trance, they summon forth frightening levels of soul and fury...combining liberal amounts of melody and machinery. Wielding their weapons, knife-playing their way through endless regions of space and time.
