Influences
The Replacements, The Band, Neil Young, Dave Wotherspoon, Uncle Tupelo, Saturday Morning Cartoons, Beer, Thrush Hermit, Procrastination, Briscoe County Jr, Big Star, Mediocraty, Gary Busey, Flying Burito Brothers, Bonnie Tyler, Bruce Springsteen, Journey (the 2 songs, not the 3rd one), Joan Jett, Clapping, Grampaboy, CCR, Emmylou Harris, Mott the Hoople, The Zit Remedy, Teenage Fanclub, Wilco, Gram Parsons, Jesse and the Rippers, Gang vocals, Guided by Voices, Tom Waits, Fur Packed Action, The East Coast.
This all started with the goal of playing songs that sounded like The Replacements covering The Band. After joining, DT said it sounded more like The Ramones covering Peter, Paul and Mary... I guess that's alright too. Members have played in some of Newfoudland, Ottawa and Peterborough's elite country, punk and rock bands and the influences probably show (even if the professionalism doesn't always). Andrew Carver once called it 'robust barroom rock with the occasional rootsy flourish' - we'll take that as a compliment.
We've got a song posted and a show in a couple of weeks. I assume you'll love our music... actually, I assume everyone will... maybe I'm setting myself up for dramatic disappointment.
Cheers, Jon The Emily Valentine (& Some day, all this will have to be fixed. )
I'll be doing a show on Monday with 'that's the spirit', 'arms & sleepers', and Michael Munnik. It should be a good time, and it's free! Pop by to Zaphods, it you're so inclined.
Hey guys. It was fun playing with you and Immaculate Machine last month.
If you're interested in hearing an entirely different version of Sadie Hell "this" friday night at Zaphods. Come!
my brother Sam is going to be playing electric guitar, my other brother Luke is going to be playing piano, and my friends Sean and Justin are going to be on Drums and bass.
Plus Mallory who you saw sing with me last time. She'll be singing with me again, and playing the glockenspiel on one song.
It's gonna be swell.
And I hope you guys are free, and feel like coming out. I really liked your set last month, and I hope we find ourselves on a bill together again in the future.
